Maybe not greater but the Before Trilogy or Toy Story might come close, nothing else pops into my memory where all 3 films are flawless, I've yet to watch the third Godfather film, but the consensus seems to be that it is nowhere near the other 2.

After you watch the first two, the third one will put you into a state of depression due to the "if onlys".

--If only Coppola had followed up Part II in a reasonable amount of time instead of waiting fifteen years while he pissed away his talent on The Cotton Club and Captain Eo.

--If only Robert Duvall was in the movie.

--If only Sofia Coppola wasn't in the movie.

--If only someone had reined in Al Pacino's tendency to overact.

Damn, I just watched a DVD of Night and the Citytonight, not releasing it was out on blu-Ray. Haven't seen it in years, had a crappy few days and felt like I needed it. No matter how bad my life is going, i know it's not as bad as Richard Widmark's character in this film. One of the finest examples of film noir.

Night Train to Munich Blu-ray REVIEW

Night Train to Munich looks very good in high-definition, so if you have been wondering if this Blu-ray release will represent a strong upgrade in quality over the DVD release (from Criterion), the answer is definitely yes.

On the other hand, I think that the film has its moments, but it is definitely not in the same league with Carol Reed's The Third Man and Odd Man Out. I think that Alfred Hitchcock's The Lady Vanishes and Ernst Lubitsch's To Be or Not to Be do everything that Reed's film should have done -- which is effectively blend suspense and comedy -- much better. If you don't have them yet, consider adding them first to your collections.

I'm curious to know, on the titles that are priced $29.99....what is the main reason for those releases to lack special features?

Like for example, the Blu-ray release of "Night Train to Munich" doesn't even have a commentary track. I'm sure their is a film historian out there who would've happily want to sit down and record a commentary for it.

Does Criterion simply can't find any good material that's worth adding to the disc? I mean they cared enough to restore and release those films, just interesting to know why the special features lack on some of them. "Jubal" is another good example.

That is no. 11 on Empire's list of 33 greatest.

The Big City: I guess you already seen the Apu Trilogy? this is a no brainer if you enjoyed those, personally my favorite Ray film.
Night and the City: One of my favorites film noir films.
The Organizer: More drama than the typical Italian comedy, but it balances it well, it also has a smaller price tag.
The Thin Blue Line: Easily one of the best documentaries I have seen.
Black Orpheus: One of the greatest soundtracks in the collection.
The Naked Island: While not silent, it plays almost like one, with a great musical score.
Fish Tank: Well it has Michael Fassbender, the girl is amazing too.
Summer Hours: Such a great family drama, with a very relatable story.
The Music Room: just because... More Ray is always welcome.
Lonesome: Again with the silent's you can't miss this if you are fan of something like Sunrise (1927)

I'll take Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi over the Rambo trilogy any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, and The Last Crusade, too.

I'm curious, too. Seems to me that Night Train to Munich is over-price at $39.99 MSRP. With the lack of special features (just a couple of talking heads), it should be a budget release.

I loved my old Criterion Blu-ray of Night Train to Munich, so I cannot wait to see it in high definition. The film is derivative, but I still think that it's pretty great.

Nicolas Winding Refn's "Pusher" trilogy is pretty solid as well. I really hope Criterion releases that some day.

The performances of the two leads (the basketball player and his roommate) are a real problem. Bruce Dern is excellent though as always and the film has some interesting statements about the 60s social movements. I wish Nicholson could have acted in it in some capacity. I know that the lead actor needed to be decent at basketball, but his performance is pretty awful. I watched the movie "Bachelor Party" with Tom Hanks and I noticed his brother is played by the lead in "Drive, He Said". Only other time I've seen him.

I've watched "A Safe Place" twice and it didn't improve for me on the second viewing. Not a fan of Henry Jaglom's films at all. "Tracks" with Dennis Hopper is alright, but still manages to incorporate moments of Jaglom cringiness. Jaglom always makes me think, "What if Woody Allen really sucked and had no comedic sense?" Then, he would be Henry Jaglom. I love Woody, but Jaglom is kind of what Woody would be if he didn't have a lot of talent.
I've only seen two Jagloms (the other being Going Shopping) and I'd add "A Nic Roeg without timing or wit" in there too. I think he's a decent director of actors (but then again I like Tuesday weld) and I appreciate the avant grade spirit, but man, the guy has a thing for redundancy and hammering a point home.

I'll have to track down Tracks. It's a must that I fill all of my Hopper BlindSpots.

Just curious, did any criterion blu received lower rating (less than 3)...just talking about 'movie' rating, not overall/video/audio ratings...
