Not that I can recall.

I know Frances Ha, Moonrise Kingdom, and Tiny Furniture also have three stars.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Criterion release of the Trash Trilogy by John Waters:

Pink Flamingos
Female Trouble
Desperate Living

That would make a great box set.

That's one way of looking at it.

Another way is that it's Gilliam's version (or two different Gilliam versions) that has been making money for Universal since the film was released 30 years ago. The only reason Sheinberg's version still exists is because Criterion has included it in their releases (on LD, DVD, and BD) essentially as a demonstration of how not to monkey with a film. Even Universal itself has done nothing with the "Love Conquers All" version of the film.

The bottom line is that Sheinberg and his minions paid for it, therefor they did have some right to weigh in on which cut they felt would be more financially viable.

...doesn't make him look like any less of a clueless nincompoop for trying to force such a nonsensical ending onto an otherwise perfect film.

Yesterday, I got my last batch of Criterions from B&N. Once again, I tried for a little variety:

Ikiru
Kiss Me Deadly
3:10 to Yuma
In a Lonely Place
A Touch of Zen

and the Eclipse #38: Masaki Kobayashi Against the System DVD set.

I'm a simple man with a tiny amount of money available to take advantage of this sale one last time.

To Be or Not to Be
or
The New World

Not sure which I'll grab today.

Famous last words. Drove out to Dallas to pick up the only copy of The Last Metro at any Barnes & Noble within 30 miles, and grabbed The Apu Trilogy, too.

Now, I am done. For real, this time.

There's still roughly 72 hours remaining until the end of the sale.

My advice would be to lock yourself up in a basement for the next three days, with plenty of food, water, toilet paper and adult reading material.

Leave instructions with your significant other and/or friend/relative/roommate to let you out at 12:01 am on Tuesday morning.

...that's what I'm doing.

True, one of the funniest movies i've seen, and given the period of its production, quite brave as well.

I've barricaded myself in my "zombies stay away" survival shelter....and I'm coming to you from the very edge of my wifi range. I've got three days of Ramen noodles, Playboy mags, and Jolt cola to make it through.

Oh wait, I'm not in college anymore. I'll just have to keep telling myself the sale is over.

Oh, look. Rashomon!

I don't recall ever getting an answer to this question when I asked it, but how has The Last Metro come, typically? I know that there is an option to get it with the Scanavo and standard case insert. But did The Last Metro ever come in the Digipack we're used to now? Or did it go from the really old school one I have directly to the plastic case? The one mine came in isn't bad; a few minor dings in the corners, but passable. But being the perfectionist I am when it comes to the quality of my packaging, I'll probably get replacements. If the kind of Digipack that comes with On The Waterfront, A Hard Day's Night, etc is an option, I'd drop money like it's hot to get it.

The funny thing is that I reserved the copy before making the 45 minute drive to Dallas. I'm imagining they held some kind of party at the Barnes and Noble store (the one I went to was huge; 2 different floors).

"We finally sold it!" I'm going to appear on the corporate "Candid Camera" video in 2017. "The man who finally bought the dusty copy of Truffaut's film."

What does that say about Dallasites, then? Bunch of philistines.

Personally, I just couldn't get through Desperate Living. My John Waters box set would replace that film with Polyester.

I watched Lola and Bay of Angels last night on Hulu.

I had never seen a Jaqcues Demy film before.

Liked them both, but Lola hit me especially hard.

The ending...my god that ending.

That poor guy.

...I feel his pain.

I second that notion! FYI, even more chilling when you think about the connection between the two films ("umbrellas" and "Lola"). I grew up on Wong Kar Wai, but after discovering Demy I can totally see where Wong gets his inspiration from!

I watched about ten minutes of it before starting to mumble to myself, "Wait...are they gonna sing like this the entire time? Wait...is this a musical?"

At that point I must admit that I turned it off.

May attempt to revisit at some point toward the end of my free two-week trial.

The Umbrellas of Cherbourg is an incredible, beautifully shot, colorful film with an amazing cast. I cannot remcommend that film enough. The main song is beautiful, haunting, and unforgettable. That film was one reason why I decided to learn French. If you haven't seen it, make it a priority to watch it.
