So I popped my (old) Criterion DVD of Pierrot le Fou into the player (sorry, don't have the BD, it sure went OOP quick). I remember a few months ago there was a sacred cow bashing of this film in here. Man, you guys are wack, this is still a great film and one of Godard's most accessible and poetic.

I remember originally being slightly offended by the "play" scene where Belmondo and Karina dress up to amuse some American tourists. Now I think it's hilarious.

Afterwards, I watched The Passenger on DVD. I believe Nicholson holds the rights to this film and is pretty protective of it, but he really needs to share it with us on blu ray. While I don't think it's Antonioni's best, I do think it's his best *American* film, and that means it still ranks highly on his resume. It's an "anti-thriller", a thriller that shows only the scenes that happen between plot points. But then, nearly every Antonioni film is like that, that's what makes him a unique director. "The shot" at the end of the film is great, but now I do see the part of the fence where it is supposed to split in half (to let the camera through).

I believe a new 4k restoration was just done for it, so I'm betting Criterion does another release for it down the line anyway.

Studio Canal likely will overseas, but Criterion lost the rights, so I don't see them putting out another.

For those interested, tickets for BAM's Tree of Life screening with a live orchestral score just went on sale. Just snagged tickets for the Saturday screening.

EDIT: Whoops! I didn't notice RojD's post. My bad.

I don’t recall any bashing of Pierrot Le Fou around here. Needless to say, it isn’t for everyone.

I bought the Blu-ray as a ‘like new’ disc only for around $25. There is a very high quality cover out there that is only customized in that the booklet (which I don’t have) is not mentioned on the back cover. At my old job I printed out a second cover and had it hanging at my desk. Of course, no one who ever came through or past had any idea what it was.

.
A couple of months ago there was this little "kick" in here where a bunch of people smacked around a few sacred cows to get stuff off their chests "Ya know I'm just not a fan of Godard...I only MAYBE like Le Mepris...yadda yadda." Stuff along those lines. Pierrot Le Fou was one of the more favorite targets of the Godard bashing. I'm sure you'll find those posts if you use the search engine. I'm not upset by it, I just get amused when people go on these kicks. There are a lot of sacred cows I could certainly kick, myself. But that would be closer to trolling considering how much more popular they are today than stuff from Ye Days of Yore (ie pre 1980s).

Regardless, there will probably be another region A BD release at some point, although right now there are many other films I'd rather get on BD than upgrading my Pierrot le Fou DVD to BD, honestly. Thanks for the info though.

Usually the Criterion Flash sale happens twice a year, in February and September, so we may see this again next month.

I had the coupon on my smartphone and the cashier said she tried using this today and it didn't work for another customer, but I still asked her to try it to see if it works and she did and it didn't go through. She stated it doesn't work on Criterions or Harry Potter merchandise. Too bad since I always tend to get away with coupons working in the B&N stores.

Anyway, today's the day for tickets.
Damn, I totally forgot about this! I was planning a trip to NYC this fall too, so going in mid-November sounds perfect for me, and planning around this event is good. Now the question is, should I buy 2 tickets in case I take a friend with me? I guess I can always sell the spare ticket later if nobody joins me. I'm going to go ahead and buy a ticket and hope to see many of you there!

By the way, with this post, it is my 3000th post on this website! I am now a Blu-ray Samurai!

Oh man, tickets are like $55-75 for a decent seat....the ones in the way back in the last row or two are $35. Not sure if I'm going to do this still. Hmmm.

You got screwed, my friend. I'm sorry. Nowhere on the current coupon does it say excludes movies, or Criterions.

I know...but it would have only been another $3 saved, and I've already screwed over B&N countless times with multiple coupons I stacked years ago. This was the universe saying that it had enough of me. Ha.

Coupon does not say but this link that was there in the coupon does plus most stores got an email from corporate asking not to accept coupons for criterions

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/h/term...pon-exclusions

Now they even used a big/bold case.

and system in almost all the stores coupons stopped scanning automatically unless cashier overrides. I have seen cashier at my store pressing a few additional keys before scanning the coupon and then it worked, the other way to get a 'beep' (rejection) and then manual override.

I feel I must make one last trip to my local B&N this afternoon. September's Flash sale is too far away. On my radar are Clouds of Sils Maria, Late Spring, Rififi, and a couple others.

I've caught parts of Maria the last two nights before bed, and, I must admit, it grabbed me. Then again, I absolutely love Juliette Binoche, so I'd watch anything she was in. She's pretty much become my favorite living actress, right above Cate Blanchette.

The Flash sale needs to hurry the heck up and get here. I need the Classic Hitchcock boxed set in the worst way since B&N didn't offer it.

By the way, speaking of Hitchcock and Truffaut, HBO is airing a documentary about their legendary meeting, and the book that was issued based on those meetings. It will debut one week from today, August 8th, at 9 PM ET.

Wow, looking at that list, there sure are a lot of exclusions. They might as well just go ahead and exclude everything in the store. I guess B&N are falling on hard times, so they're getting tough and fighting back.

Next month is September...I'm sure you can have a bit more patience. In my case, there was only one title I really wanted (The New World), but I can wait. That film isn't going anywhere.

That's odd. The 20% coupon I saved on my phone didn't have that 'see additional details' wording, and nothing about Criterions. I can't pull it up now, though, because it's showing as expired.

They gave me a 10% off entire purchase, in-store coupon after the buy, and there are no exclusions on it, either. Of course, it doesn't start until August 5th, after our sale has ended.

I hope they get it together before the next Criterion sale, or I won't re-up my membership.

The bit about it being too far away was meant to be sarcasm.

Items are mostly from a few categories, not really very wide-spread and most of these were already there...

Last 3 October flash sale happened on

10/6/2015
10/9/2014
10/1/2013

So October is more likely than September...
