(If the film already exists, you can go straight to entering the DVD from its entry).

For the box set, there is a field to enter the individual disk IDs so that they appear in the listing, and you put the film names in the overall title so they appear in the sub heading.

I did that for the giant French Rohmer set - it was a lot of work but fun.

Here are some useful links:

Adding a film to the database

Adding cast or crew

You can look at how I did it for the Rohmer set for guidance:

Thanks for posting this. If I get time there are a few UK Truffaut DVDs that aren't in the database. I'd like to add them.

I now have all of Truffaut's feature films either on DVD or Blu-ray. All bought new or like new and at great prices. There's only like 23 so no big deal, but if I could get through them all, he'll be the first director whose filmography I will have completed.

I actually don't have The Green Room. The DVD is supposed to be awful, so I'll worry about getting it later.

Our theatrical poster for Krzysztof Kieslowski's DEKALOG. Coming to theaters this September in a stunning 2k restoration!

The poster will more than likely be available for purchase on Criterion's website in the future.

I noticed there's a pre-order up on Amazon titled "Two Films by Douglas Sirk". It says it's distributed by Sony, and the runtime is 3hrs 22 mins (202 mins). Release date is Sept. 27th. Anyone have any idea what this might be?

https://www.amazon.com/Two-Films-Dou...&keywords=sirk

I looked through his filmography, and I think he did 2 films with Columbia: Shockproof, and Slightly French

Ooh. Always up for more Sirk. Really curious to know what these will be. I splurged on a sealed second-hand copy of Eureka's A Time to Love... since the Blu-Ray may or may not be out of print, and after watching it last night, am ever so glad I did. So glad I almost immediately went and ordered Olive's Sleep, My Love... but I held off like a responsible adult, at least until the next paycheck.

I still think Sirk would be great for an Eclipse set or three. One for "Sirk in Germany" would be neat, among others.

Try adding up combinations of run time until you get 202 minutes. I'm guessing one of them is Written on the Wind since I recently bought the French bluray.

Watched Early Summer last night and really liked it, though it seemed remarkably similar to the story in Late Spring. Then I started watching Late Autumn and was like, "Wait...another movie about people trying to arrange a marriage for a young woman?"

So I started watching An Autumn Afternoon and was like, "Wait...what?!...A story about a father trying to orchestrate a marriage for his daughter. This feels vaguely familiar."

I may shift over to Floating Weeds tonight just to get a breath of fresh air.

On an unrelated note, am I the only one who finds it a little strange that Chishū Ryū played Setsuko Hara's father in Late Spring, then her brother in Early Summer, then her father-in-law in Tokyo Story?

And Chieko Higashiyama played Chishū Ryū's mother in Early Summer and then his wife in Tokyo Story.

...I think Ozu is attempting to mess with my head.

Ozu films overlap a lot in themes, and some are either straight up remakes, or a re-telling of a previous movie.

I couldn't find any two film combinations that totaled 202 minutes. The run time Amazon has could be an error.

I like what Glenn Kenny said about Ozu many years ago:

"Ozu's oeuvre is like a deep forest--they're as different and as alike as trees, and it's always great to have more to explore."

But honestly, I think watching so many Ozu films has now made me somewhat hostile to people always trying to push their kids into marriage...some people say Ozu is about the importants bonds of family, but I kinda interpreted Ozu as seeing family as being a pain in the butt sometimes.

I liked all the 3 movies available in criterion blu-ray, but he certainly was not a risk-taker, innovater & versatile as some other great directors.

I find most of his films to have a relaxed, almost meditative feel to them, which I enjoy. He never married, and he lived with his mom into old age, but he really understood the family dynamic. And while his films are very much Japanese in cultural aesthetics, I think everyone can relate to the themes. The struggles of a parrent, or the obligations you as a child have to them, etc.. I also find a lot his films to be greatly amusing, he is a master of injecting subtle humor when/where you don't expect it.

Keep in mind Ozu wasn't some maverick director operating with creative freedom to do whatever he pleased. He was a studio contract director who developed his own unique style for the genre his studio designated him for, which was shomin-geki. That's not to say he isn't an auteur, which he absolutely is, but he can't be compared to Kurosawa or Imamura who were hell bent on making the films they wanted to make whether the people financing them liked it or not.

I can't imagine that those two films would be up for Blu-ray release by Sony. But the vast bulk of his US filmography was made by Universal, and I don't see Sony releasing those, either.

My guess would be two of the handful of titles released through United Artists. More specifically, possibly the two that were released on DVD by Kino back in the early 00s, and are no longer in print: A Scandal in Paris (1946) and Lured (1947). And they just happen to total 202 minutes.

Disagree with the notion that he wasn't an innovator. The man crafted a distinct cinematic language that coincides with his thematic concerns perfectly. Not to mention that he is arguably the most profound humanistic director of them all.

I added a load of French MK2 DVDs and a couple of others, so it would be nice to see some more listings to fill out the gaps. It can be your project

Well actually, the life expectancy back then was around 65, so yeah . I suppose I could phrase it more elaborately, but the point was that he lived with his mother her whole life , and died 2 years after her, so he never married or had kids, but was still able to capture that so perfectly in his films.

While a lot of Ozu's films seem to be re-tellings of a previous movie, you'll find that they each differ from each other in big ways. For example,
[Show spoiler]in Late Spring, Setsuko Hara has no other choice but to marry her father's choice and in the end she accepts it. However, in Early Summer, while like in Late Spring she seems to have no other choice but to accept her family's marriage choice, but in the end she chooses her own way even though they don't approve.

As for An Autumn Afternoon, it's my favorite Ozu. I love Ozu's choice of daily scenes in this one, such as watching a baseball game, buying golf clubs, reunions with friends. Also, it's his most gorgeous looking film IMO. And the standard Ozu themes of loneliness, choice, marriage, etc hit me harder than the others personally.

Yeah, life expectancy during the Roman empire may have been about 45 years. But that expectancy was pulled down by three things: a high death rate for women during childbirth; a high rate for men of mitary age; and a high rate among children, for childhood diseases.

His color films really are spectacular looking. My vote would go towards Floating Weeds, if only for this scene.
