Just "Ace in the Hole", which was more of a one-off rescue of a "lost" critical favorite.

Of the comedies, SLIH, Fortune Cookie, Irma, Apartment and 123 are MGM, but it's a little premature to think that Criterion is going to start a new career as MGM Clearance Warehouse just because they got the two Kubrick films.
While "Seven Year Itch" is over at Fox (and that Blu now seems to be MIA), and the dramas (Stalag, Sunset, Weekend) were over at Paramount.

I'll limit my "back catalog Blu wish list" to 10:

3 - The Lady Vanishes
6 - Beauty and the Beast
32 - Oliver Twist
51 - Brazil
95 - All That Heaven Allows
139 - Wild Strawberries
216 - The Rules of the Game
300 - The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou
378 - Fires on the Plain
385 - Army of Shadows

The only Wilder film on Criterion DVD now is Ace In The Hole (licensed from Paramount). Of course they did release Some Like It Hot on laserdisc back in the day.

Since making that list, I've also remembered two later Wilder masterpieces that might be candidates for Criterion:

The Private Life Of Sherlock Holmes (owned by MGM)
Fedora (no idea who currently owns the rights to this)

A Criterion set containing Sunset Boulevard, Ace In The Hole, Some Like It Hot, The Apartment and these two titles would be something to swoon over!

"Lorimar", aka late-70's MGM.
Sank without a trace in theaters, and isn't considered prime Wilder, but that never stopped Criterion before.

They most certainly did not get any of those three films. Whoever told you that was being dishonest.

Why would MGM let them have the rights to Some Like it Hot and 12 Angry Men anyways? They both have special editions and are still good sellers for the studio.

since studio canal stole everything from them

they seem to be trying to reclaim the american classics from the lazer disc days ,,

i think after several rumors some like it hot is likely

so is apartment ( maybe )

no way on sunset blvd ( paramount wont let that go , they will wait to release it themselves )

No. The german financers own the rights to the film. It's been licensed to Olive Films in the United States, who will be releasing the film next year. They also picked up a few unreleased Fassbinder titles from the same company. Good news! I've always wanted to see Fedora.

thank you for the input

i read it several times at the criterionforum and various other reputable dvd websites

it does not matter if there good sellers mgm are ****ed ,,, i never thought the day would come when i have , thin red line , paths of glory , night of the hunter on criterion blu-ray

and they may have lovely dvd,s but this is blu-ray and lets face it mgm cannot afford restorations so they are licensing them out to boutique labels like criterion

ok we wont see " the great escape " etc but that is totally different

I've never seen anyone post on .org or .com that Some Like it Hot was coming. The financial condition of MGM doesn't have much to do with their home video situation because all their dvds and blus are handled by 20th Century Fox and even if the company goes under, that doesn't nullify Fox's contract to continue distribution of the MGM library.

and how does that stop mgm from licensing criterion the rights to films

yes im going to say it

in this day and age of people that dont give two craps about the classics like we all do ,,, why would they not ???

criterion seem to be doing a good job so far

they managed to get last picture show off sony so anything is possible

12 angry men and some like it hot where both on criterion laser disc
they can get the rights .....

they seem to be going after some of the stuff they lost

Here's the two highest grossing "films" at the box office this weekend.

1. The Expendables $16.5M
2. Vampires Suck $12.2M

Does that answer your question?

MGM isn't licensing Criterion anything. These films are being licensed from 20th Century Fox, who has the distribution rights to the MGM catalog.

If you own the dvd of The Fugitive Kind, you'll see the 20th Century Fox logo on the back cover next to the MGM logo. MGM just gets royalties from these releases. All decisions are made by Fox. Before MGM was distributed by FOX, they were distributed by Sony. MGM has never handled their home video releases. You will see the Fox logo on the back of the blus for Paths of Glory and Night of the Hunter too.

While Some Like It Hot, 12 Angry Men, The Apartment may be picked up in the future (though unlikely) they are not currently with Criterion. I'm not going to post the list of titles that they picked up but I can tell you for a fact that this "rumor" is untrue.
all i heard was criterion was after them

well then looks like we wont be seeing these on blu-ray for a long time

hope where all happy

While it's true that Fox is the current distributor of the MGM catalog, Fox is not making the decisions about which titles to release. MGM has its own home video release schedule that is independent of Fox's. It's the same relationship Criterion has with Image - Image is the distributor, but Criterion releases what they decide to release.

While Criterion is licensing the MGM titles through Fox (as MGM's distributor), the MGM rights holders have approval over what Criterion can get their hands on, not Fox.
