I have about 25 GBP sitting in my amazon uk account...Now how did that happen...

[Show spoiler]When pound hit a low during Brexit, I bought some amazon uk GCs with my US fund, in anticipation that I needed to order Pink Floyd's Division Bell Box set & The Third Man 4k remaster. So I ordered them, but even after a week or so they did not ship and one (fine) morning, I saw the Pink Floyd set has dropped by more than 20 GBP but it was not in stock (expected to ship in 12-14 days, it said)...I took a risk, cancelled & reorder same 2 items...which saved me about 25 GBP. The risk paid off and I received those 2 items I cancelled & reordered.
There's a thread for that. "List of international blu-rays with better PQ/AQ than US releases" or something to that effect.

The latest release of Ran is much better than the US release. No question.

Darn, I thought you meant "the hidden," not "cache," but I've only heard great things about that. I have been wanting to see Junebug for years now, maybe I should break down and get that, too. And, I read an article about Cry Baby somewhat recently which made me put it on my watchlist.

I watched Dances with Wolves two or three times on VHS as a youngun, I'm sort of curious to revisit it, but I've had no interest at all in seeing a much longer version. Guess maybe I should take more advantage of the crippled pound

I've seen three of those now. Pretty groady stuff, but they are entertaining and have the exact kind of style and vibe I was expecting.

That's an impressive OOP collection. Where do you get all this space to display single titles like that!

By the way, I have all of those OOP blu-rays, including The Third Man... plus The Man Who Fell to Earth. Very proud to say I own all of the OOP Criterion blu-rays.

That's fair enough.

But I view The Long Goodbye as a legitimate classic that doesn't really get its due as such.

...films like that deserve a Criterion release imo.

Some of the current transfer's shortcomings may in fact be intrinsic to the film itself and the way it was shot. But I do believe that a better transfer is possible if put in the right hands. And I would really like a commentary track and some new interviews and other things of this nature.

...especially if Arnold is involved.

"Salo and "Sweet Movie" are rumored to be the two that could go OOP soon. So, you may want to pick those up pronto.

Nothing wrong there Ray. It's rather exciting whenever titles go out of print and I have to scramble to buy them before they're gone forever.

So I placed an order to a US adress a month ago during the sale. Today I got this mail, regarding The New World;

"Your order contained an item that is no longer scheduled for release. This may be because the item was discontinued or replaced by a newer version.

We canceled this portion of your order and you will not be billed for it."

Thats just not true, is it? I pre-ordered the damn thing and it has been in stock several times since then without shipping! This was the release I was looking forward to the most and I found someone willing to ship it privately. I'm mad at you, B&N! Now I wont be able to get it easily and I certainæy cant expect it to show up in good shape if I get it from eBay

The Tree of Wooden Clogs should be listed as #841 on criterion.com. Although, it's currently without a #.

It's completed. I got to see a screening of it. It's actually a solid teal screen, with the audio of Heat playing over it.

It was breathtaking.

I'll be surprised if it looks better. Like Nashville, The Long Goodbye isn't a very pretty film and is an emblem of the gritty 70s' aesthetic - grain, zoom lenses, inherent softness, dirt and debris.

More extras and such would be nice for sure, but I'd still feel like it's a waste of a release when other great Robert Altman films are out there completely unrepresented on the format. Popeye, Images, Brewster McCloud, Cookie's Fortune & A Prairie Home Companion would all be very welcome in my book.

Default In regards to Robert Altman

I think that many of us can agree that the Criterion Collection of 2016 could be called The Year of Altman. In the past, several other auteurs have been given similar attention. One director that has not has been Luis Buñuel. Buñuel is arguably one of the greatest directors of all time, yet he only has one film (Belle de jour) in the CC blu-ray format. I am hoping that more of his films are given the CC treatment in the months to follow!

I loved Cabin in the Woods when I saw it in the theater. I found it didn't hold up well when seeing it on Blu-ray. It's still fun in its way, but...

Never saw Scream.

What about Tucker and Dale vs. Evil?
I've had it in my Netflix queue for seemingly forever. Was mostly interested in it for Alan Tudyk. Just saw a trailer for it on another Magnolia release, and it seems like a clever deconstruction. Still not sure whether it can sustain the premise for an entire movie.

The Hateful Eight and Death Proof are actually my favorite Tarantino films since Pulp Fiction, but I get what you're saying. I warmed up to The Hateful Eight a lot, because I like its similarities to John Carpenter's The Thing.

I had initially decided to hold out for a Blu-ray of the 70mm Roadshow version of The Hateful Eight, which is the one that I saw at the theater, but I recently changed my mind, and pulled the trigger on the existing Blu-ray, since I figure that this will be the best possible way to ensure a near-future release of the 70mm version.

I'm happy with my DVD of Prarie Home Companion, but if it opens the gates for some Paul Thomas Anderson (as he was involved in the production) I'll be more than happy about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but at this point the only remaining Criterion upgrade of Altman is Secret Honor.

I had a "meh" reaction to Robert Altman's Nashville when I watched the Criterion Blu-ray a couple of years ago. The film has its positive aspects, fortunately, and I plan to revisit the disc at some point in the future.

I loved The Long Goodbye, though. Changing the time period of the novel, which is my personal favorite Chandler novel, to the 1970s helped to emphasize Philip Marlowe's character as the outsider that he is.

I've got 3 Women in my unwatched Blu-ray stack at home, so it's in the queue.
