Okay, I probably did that when they released The Rock and Armageddon on DVD. But they haven't released titles like those in a long time. Their most mainstream titles these days are the ones by Wes Anderson.
Actually, I'd say that Anderson's films are less mainstream than films like The Graduate or Tootsie.

Did the article (which I seem to have completely missed) mention which ones? I saw A Night in Casablanca just a couple of days ago and it just seemed so tired. A far cry from their early days with The Cocoanuts and Animal Crackers.

I don't think we should get mad at re-issues, it has nothing to do with new releases as far as I can tell. The only difference between Criterion's re-releases and any other company's is that they announce when the new batch will hit stores. Whereas other companies usually just ship a freshly pressed batch and get the re-release to stores without any fanfare.

Little thought; do you think Criterion should work something out with Disney/ABC about sublicensing the ABC Motion Pictures library? Because I would love to give my mom a proper release of The (original) Heartbreak Kid.

I've always loved the made-forTV movie Something for a Lonely Man. It would be great if that got released on blu, or even a decent DVD. It's not top-tier, but I've always had a soft spot for Dan Blocker.

BTW, on a Criterion note, Robert Altman dedicated McCabe & Mrs. Miller to Dan Blocker. Apparently, Altman had directed some episodes of "Bonanza" and he and Blocker became friends.

Just saw the new releases, very good month.

Dream is quite a surprise for me, cannot wait to have that one.

I am surprise that there was no release of Luis Bunuel yet from Criterion, makes me a bit sad.

Friggin' awesome. I was just asking about Shanghai Express. Come to papa! That can't get released fast enough for me. Hope the remaster goes smoothly, and quickly. I wonder what the condition of the source material is?

Edit: psyched, too, about the Marx Bros. films getting remastered. Now, A Day at the Races and A Night at the Opera, too, please, so I can get them off my DVR, and onto my shelf!!!

Sorry to go off topic, but most of my Criterions from the B&N sale arrived today (Yes, it took that long!). However, with Naked Lunch, the case it was in was quite peculiar...

Why is it like this? Is it supposed to be like this? Has this happened to anyone else before? Please tell me. I'm not opening, as I want a replacement case and cover, so I will have to wait before watching Naked Lunch for a while.

P.S. Yes, that's me on the right of the image. And sorry about the framing, and how it's mirrored. Photo Booth on my laptop is rubbish for this sort of thing.

EDIT: If you can't see the photo, the case is a standard U.S. case, slim, blue coloured, and the short plastic cover holder.

I almost never complain about covers, but my god is that "Punch Drunk Love" cover awful. Probably the worst Criterion cover I can remember. Obviously, an important moment from the film, but I think they could have gone a lot of other directions.

Great month of announcements overall though.

Very happy with the announcements, will pick up:

- Punch Drunk Love
- Squid and the Whale
- Dreams
- One Eyed Jacks

November's sale can't come soon enough, moving to a new place on top of the cursed overseas shipping charges means I can only really buy around sale time this year, so with this slate, not to mention Chimes at Midnight, Immortal Story, Short Cuts, Blood Simple, Cat People, Woman in the Dunes, Zatoichi re-release and Dekalog all coming out in the coming months, I'm going to have to do some serious figuring out of which ones to get in the sale.
