prob not, since it is nothing like his earlier films. The Eclipse set is best if you want to spend that much. CC gave a good Starting point, but I say jump right in.

But I would say buy Mr. Lawrence still though if you haven't watched any Oshima before it. Bowie! Just don't base Oshima's work on it.

its a real disc but not criterion. I looked on all my criterion disc they either have no markings or they are labeled CC(and what ever the number of the disc is it). This bootleg had BDDVR01******* on and on.

Nope, sad to say. The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans got one, so I don't know why this one didn't. Oh well, still going to get the dvd.

Haven't seen any news on any other Herzog coming to blu, but it would be nice if Criterion finally released something by him. Even if they can't get any older films, heck, My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done isn't coming to blu anytime soon.

Where/when did you hear that Warner is working on them? In the last on-line Warner chat, I think they said they had no plans to release them on Blu.

It's up on blu-ray.com this morning, but digitalbits mentioned it last week.

The purchase has been made...getting psyched...glad you have a 799 as well. I wanted to get a trusted opinion on it, before making a decision.

NOW you and the gang will have to start making good suggestions on non-region A releases.

Don't know if this applies to the 799, but beware of firmware updates that might clobber its region free-ness.

Maybe MoC can release the Sternberg silents on blu someday. But until then (or Nov) I'll prob hold off on them.
