I guess I am not that excited because we already knew it was coming, I thought it would be announced by now, hopefully they can still release it for December on next announcement.

It would be a lovely X-Mas present to myself.

To be honest with y'all, I was hoping that it was a clue for The Swarm (1978).

I'll go with Linklater's Before Trilogy, though.

It couldn't be The Swarm. The bees weren't wearing sombreros.

My most anticipated release is Ugetsu. It recently saw a 4k restoration overlooked by Martin Scorcsese and I've been patiently waiting for some news from Criterion.

While I appreciate The Story of the Last Chrysanthemum I already had the Artificial Eye Bluray. Even though this release will be a better print which is why I have it preordered, I've been dying to get Ugetsu on Bluray. I assume they still have Region A rights for the title.

According to a user on Reddit, Mosfilm has licensed Ivan's Childhood, Andre Rublev, Solaris, The Mirror, and Stalker to Criterion

*Edit: As suggested by dwk & TLDR: The rights are for the US, the UK, and Au.

He's going out on a limb for two of those.

I suspect he means that Criterion already has the licenses for two of them: Solaris and Ivan's Childhood. And as the DVD of Andrei Rublev is still in print, I would assume that license for that one is still good.

I think ckt meant that, according to that link, Mosfilm said they licensed Criterion the US and the UK and Au rights to all those films.

Haha, yea I was wondering if it was sarcasm or if he knew something others did not.

And yes, that is an important clarification I might've included in the original post. Thanks

Before Trilogy:

What do you want in the cover art and covers for each of the films?

Stills, hand-drawn, poster, etc.

Ivan's Childhood and Solaris are already available, though. Does that mean new restorations will be released by Criterion?

I think Criterion knows this is a great release candidate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Not a Criterion release, but good news for fans of the Archers all the same:

Hopefully, that is my most anticipated Criterion as well. I love imagining what the artwork and booklet would look like for the Blu.

If A Brighter Summer Day sold well, I hope we can get Edward Yang's Taipei Story as that was recently restored too!

The Samurai of ancient Japan revered bees as sacred insects whose bites would bless the warriors with the pollen of immortality.

France is well known for having one of the oldest and most respected honey industries in the world.

Bees are also ruthless killers, who swarm their victims without regard to the moral implications of right and wrong.

...just ask Macaulay Culkin.

Incidentally, I watched A Brighter Summer Day on DVD the other day. I still think it's "good but not great" and I think it's over-hyped (which is of course not the film's fault in any way). I should add, though, that coming-of-age movies are very hit or miss with me.

But it did make me wonder if Criterion Collection still has its virginity when it comes to movies from mainland China?
