Careful Owl - even with the donuts someone might think you need to be put to work on a bride crew or something that would give you some rain time. That kind of joy at work is not generally encouraged. Put a good noir on your laptop as a reminder that all tales from the city end one way. Those who stick their heads out, generally lose them in the end.

Thanks for posting the phantom pages again!

No interest whatsoever in the first one, very excited about the second, non fussed about the third since it's already serviced with a release in the UK.

re: the first one...
[Show spoiler]not a fan of The Velvet Underground?
that sold me on at least wanting to see it. probably not to own it.

the director of the third one doesn't do much for me.. at least in my limited experience w/ him.

probably would like to see the second one as he is one of the unsung 'great' directors. seen a bunch from him.. even smaller films.. and thus far no misfires.

Most adorable teases ever.

All they had to do was ask Idziak, who is still very much alive.

The misframing really throws the film off for me now. Its super noticeable to me, maybe because I've DP'd and edited a few films and notice that sort of thing.

I emailed them too, back when it came out, with examples showing how the LD and DVD were properly framed (the title "Bleu" was perfectly centered, for one, and on the blu-ray it's shifted down like the rest of the image). They sent back a canned response that it looks right to them, but in fairness, it's not their fault, since they didn't make the master.

Not sure how they find anything in that closet since nothing is alphabetized.

The phantoms are interesting, but I'd like to see 2016 go out with a bang on a big upgrade or box set. No cartwheels or back-flips here, yet.

New York's hottest club is Criterion Closet. It has everything. The Third Man, Last Year At Marienbad, Chungking Express. That thing where they let famous people who have more money than the average person could make in ten lifetimes take as many films as they want but if I try to take just one I am "prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

With Criterion 50% sales, the cost of collecting them all is only ~$1,500 per year. That's not uber expensive. Less than most people spend on utility bills. Besides they seem to hold most of their value unlike lots of other media.

I wonder if Dragon Inn will be one too. I think the cast and crew were already added a few months ago, along with A Touch of Zen, but I could be wrong about that. There's a lot of cast overlap between the two nonetheless. I'm also thinking the Before Trilogy could be announced.

Well, fellow Sofia Coppolla fans, I guess we are getting a Marie Antoinette BD-R print on demand Sony "Choice Collection" bluray coming out next month... not quite the Criterion release I was hoping for. Really had my heart set on a box set including Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation and Marie Antoinette. Sure, no hints have been made and they definitely don't have the rights to any of these but still. Yeah, but still.

Better this than no blu at all, right?

DVD Beaver has a few of the DVD editions compared to the blu.
http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCompare/bluer2vsr1.htm

Here's the title screen, which should be centered like it was on the DVD. The whole film is framed down that much, in some cases cutting off chins and showing a microphone pretty prominently at one point (although it was slightly visible with the correct framing, it's much more so now).
