Any catalog release (or any release for that matter) from any of the above and Rivette would be awesome.
Speaking of Rivette, I wonder if they would consider releasing Celine and Julie Go Boating. It was never even released on DVD in region 1. Also, the old La belle noiseuse DVD is OOP. It seems like Criterion likes rescuing films.

Hey guys!

Just got back from a much needed vacation and yay Criterion new releases!

Antichrist - I've said enough about how much I didn't dig this movie. It had nothing to do with the graphic nature and such. It was just kind of silly and not at all as good as it could have been.

Modern Times - HELL. YES. That is all.

Night of the Hunter - Never seen it but what I hear is that it's quite terrifying and unnerving. Will have to check it out.

New Hollywood Box Set - HELL. YES. It wil cost a pretty penny, but soooo worth it.

Still no Cronos or Following announcement, but I'll live. Criterion is killing it this year, especially for the last quarter of 2010. We discussed the editing in Breathless today in class and I got kinda giddy about it. Hehe. Anywho, I think I may go sink back into my hole now and settle down and watch LOST the Complete Series again, since my blu-ray box set finally came in. Time to get lost all over again with my favorite tv show of all time.

Has Criterion ever responded to a Rivette question or request? I can't find anything...

Out 1 was a big request, and Criterion responded like a "we will try" type of thing I believe.

Some have claimed Criterion is ducking Rivette but it's probably just a messy rights issue with those films.

Not really! It's already just $87.49 on Amazon in Blu-Ray. That's only about $12.50 per film. And with a likely B&N sale on Criterion in November you may be able to find it for even less.

Hate to spoil your fun, but it comes out on the 23rd, and I doubt B&N's sale would go past the 22nd. (If it did it would go thru Thanksgiving; not likely.)

Actually I rather enjoyed spoiling your fun. One of those days I guess.

Well with most of us on here thinking this set was going to be over $100, anything now is cheaper than what we were going to pay for it. So $87.49 on Amazon right now like Chad said is a really great deal in itself.

I always wondered if they "duck" alot of directors, mainly Rivette, for a while Pialat (still kind of think that way, looking at what MoC has done), and also silent films in general.

Isn't the 23rd of November right around Black Friday? You do realize there will be other sales, right?

Ha, this is funny. Godard is going to be a no-show:

http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/b197...imdb_tv-movies

If he doesn't even show up for his own film at Cannes, what makes the Oscars think he will show up to accept an award that the likes of Sandra Bullock got before him? But too bad this won't be broadcast at the Oscars. Does anyone know if they broadcast the Governors Awards at all come November?

Oscar award = those stickers you got for being a "Good Kid" everyday in elementary school.

I have to agree. I stopped caring about the Oscars a long time ago. The Hurt Locker and Slumdog Millionaire are the last two Best Picture winners. I almost threw up just saying that. I'd laugh if Godard just refused to accept the award.

He will.

I will laugh if he shows up. Man I wish this was going to be on T.V. or pay-per-view. Would totally buy it to see Godard accepting an award from Hollywood and then giving a speech, laying into them (all 50+ years worth of laying into them).

I am more surprised that Hollywood/Oscars actually gave Godard an Oscar knowing about his anti-Hollywood ways and 99% likely he won't show.

Please, Oscars. Put this on T.V.

The whole process is so political I'm surprised too. Hollywood HATES honoring anyone who doesn't subscribe to their way of doing things 100%. They normally don't want anyone around the Oscars who would "shake the boat."

I have a feeling this announcement was just to put any "worth" back into the Oscars. Also they prob know he won't show, so they prob said "let's announce we will give him one, he won't show anyways. That way, we look good again in film critics' eyes, and we don't have to risk the a** kicking Godard would give us if he showed up!".

This is just so funny. If you asked me who the least likely to ever get an Oscar would be, it would be him. They should totally have this on t.v..

I have a question to ask, some time ago it was announced that IFC has the distribution rights for Gaspar Noe's Enter the Void, so I was wondering are there any hints that Criterion is going to pick this up for a release?
