If anyone is interested, Milestone just started selling Martin Scorsese Presents Masterpieces Of Polish Cinema Volume 2:

http://milestonefilms.com/products/m...inema-volume-2

They also seem to have a few more copies of Volume 1 for sale too. That one has been sold out for awhile. Both are likely to sell out in a matter of hours so check it out if you're interested.

It was one of the first blu-rays they released, so it was around for a while whereas Pierrot Le Fou was only in print for a matter of months.
Prices jumped immediately after Bowie's passing. I had just bought a used copy for a fairly standard $80-ish, and sealed were selling for maybe $150. I don't think 24 hours had gone by after the sad news before sealed copies were $250-300.

Ah yes, retro video game collectors know all about this kind of thing with MJ and Moonwalker on the Mega Drive/Genesis.

I don't know so much that he has "options," as you say, more so than it is his dedication to his job and the fraternity of brotherhood he shares with the other pilots.

Re: your 2nd point... There are so many anti-man stereotypes and depictions in modern commercials and mainstream television that it is enough to make me want to vomit. I wouldn't call Grant's character's behavior "refreshing," but I think I know what you are saying.

Ah dang, I thought this was for the World Cinema Project box set at first. Volume 1 was a very interesting mix, would love to see more volumes released at some point.

A couple new phantom pages for two female directors went up. Not sure if they'll amount to anything down the line

I'd be really surprised if Criterion didn't release Wendy and Lucy (a film I still need to see).

I'd missed Volume 1 in its first batch but was able to get one in the second batch. Nice to see there's a small third batch now available.

This time I ordered Volume 2 within minutes after receiving the email announcement. This comes just in time, too. I've been watching one film per month from volume 1 and have just one title left (HOURGLASS SANATORIUM for October). The new set should take me through next June. Then I've still got Criterion's BLIND CHANCE (which I've never seen) and Arrow's region-free ASHES & DIAMONDS (which I last watched over four years ago) if volume 3 isn't out by next summer.

I have no idea how I did it, but last night I finished the 3 hour and 20 minute doc on Cassavetes called "A Constant Forge" that's on the "Shadows" disc.

It was definitely way longer than it need to be (probably by a good 90 minutes), but overall, it does give you a good sense of him as a person and a director. I didn't really expect to like the Cassavetes movies all that much, and I liked each one quite a bit (aside from the ending to Opening Night).

That has to be the longest Criterion extra feature, though. I could not believe it was 200 minutes long. The director tried to out-Cassavetes Cassavetes.

The U.K. release is incredible in terms of PQ and AQ but I would double dip in a heart beat. And see it already. One of, if not the very best, film of the last 20 years.

I am completely happy with the StudioCanal re-release of The Third Man, so that's one, at least, I won't need to get (I don't plan on being a completionist, though I might come fairly close). However, Last Year at Marienbad, Howard's End, The Man Who Fell to Earth, Chungking Express, etc...those are going to cost me a bloody fortune, as there is no better release, to my knowledge. I got a nice deal on Army of Shadows. That will not be the norm. And I'm buying other limited releases that are now OOP, like the Korean imports of The Pianist, and Malena. Those are $40-50 a pop. It all adds up quickly. If you can get a good deal, and really want to own it, do it now. Don't delay.

Should Criterion issue it on blu-ray, you could always sell the limited edition version you purchased, and get a good deal of your money back. Or, you might just own both, especially if there are extras that are exclusive to one release. Listen to your gut. If you want it, go for it! We all could second guess ourselves to death. I'm trying so hard to hold off on buying any more DVDs. But if some of the movies I really want don't get a bump soon, I'm jumping in. Le Samourai, Jeanne Dielman....I could list at least ten films, if not more.
Thanks. Great points. I've been lucky in that although I came to BD later than most, the only OOP Criterion title I had to have is The Third Man - which to me is worth every penny of the $130 I paid for it. I was also able to get Last Year at Marienbad here for a great price. And thankfully, being region-free means I can upgrade Army of Shadows, and pick up Pierrot le Fou if I want to.

Would love to see the remaining Val Lewton films receive a Criterion release on blu ray (I know it's wishful thinking).

Criterion's release of the Cat People is wonderful, the transfer is immaculate.

As much as I would love to see the entire set of the Lewton horror films put out by Criterion, I would be very much surprised if it happened. If they did more of them, I suspect that The Seventh Victim would be low on the list.

For any Koreeda fans, the Maborosi dvd is the cheapest I've seen it in a while at Amazon Japan (under $40 shipped by itself).

Thanks, but it's still a damn shame this doesn't have a Blu ray yet.
