Being born and raised in Miami and a huge FishFan I am in total disbelief. Fernandez was an amazing pitcher and a truly all around good guy. Such a tragic shame.

I just finished up Blood Simple tonight. The film was just as amazing as it always is and the extras are pretty spectacular. The hour and ten minute discussion with the Coen's and another guy who worked on the film (I cant remember his name) was really insightful. They actually watch the film with you and tell behind the scenes facts and stories.

Plus the Francis McDormand interview is so great. I just love her to death. Honestly.

My only complaint is where is the Dan Hedaya interview? That guy is great in everything.

Fernandez was a brilliant pitcher and seemed to have a really infectious personality. I was truly in disbelief when I woke up to read that news. One of those guys who could have transcended sports with his ability and personality. RIP Jose.

Does anyone have any idea why they would run this:

through at 2K instead of 4K?

Pretty sure Warner will supply the master and most of what they put out has been from 2k scans of IPs.

This is coming from a verified account. She works for TCM/Filmstruck. Not sure if this speculation that Janus owns the film. I can't find anything to confirm it.

I noticed there's a new restoration of Edward Yang's The Terrorizers screening locally. Fingers crossed Criterion has the rights to it.

Maybe a little late for my comments here, but I re-watched Heaven's Gate last week. I must say that, while not perfect by any stretch, I still thoroughly enjoy it. It does run a little longer than it needs to, but the set design, the costumes, the acting, the cinematography all make it worthwhile.

One thing I really wish Criterion would do, although I can't say I fault them, is dare to be less congratulatory or complimentary toward the work and its director. All the special features on this disc just go on about how great the film is, and I like the movie, but wasn't it a huge box office disaster? Didn't it practically put United Artists out of business? Isn't that a significant part of the film's history? It seems they are hugely remiss to just gloss over all the negative press.

I've heard that one of the commentary tracks on the Matrix sequels is done by a few movie critics that did NOT enjoy the film. I don't own the Matrix series, nor do I really intend to, but I think that's a fantastic idea. That said, I would've settled for any commentary at all for the film, since there wasn't one included with this release.

TL;DR - I guess I just wish companies would stop trying to market everything as an undiscovered masterpiece and be more honest about its place in film history.

My guess is they *could* do that, or they could have director involvement/approval, but probably not both (for most directors, maybe some wouldn't care). Considering that this release had director involvement...

Yeah, I would love to hear more commentaries where there's real disagreement among those doing the commentary.

Just saw that my Neon Demon blu is home waiting for me!

Probably been asked before but, will we ever get any Refn in the collection? If we do, what do you think would be most likely? Which Refn would you want most?

The release really is held back by Cimino's involvement in that way. As great as it is, it feels incomplete and to get the full story you really have to do your own digging. Luckily one of the more obvious bonus features they could have included is available free on Youtube -

Nice! Mine arrives tomorrow.

As to Refn in the collection, I don't see it happening anytime soon. I have no facts or anything to base this on, it's just a feeling.

As to which of his films I would like to see, clearly for me The Neon Demon would be first on the list. It's not only my favorite NWR film, it's one my favorite films of this century so far. But since it's just coming out ...

And I know a lot of people will think I've completely lost my mind (if they don't already), but I would really like to see Only God Forgives in the collection. It's utterly polarizing (which is one of the reasons I like it -- I tend to enjoy divisive films for some reason), and there would be so much to talk about in extras and a solid commentary.

I like Only God Forgives a lot, even if I can't quite describe why. Just mesmerizes me. Has anyone seen the 3D version of it?

what is its place in film history, though? don't you think that for this film, more so than for a lot of others, that is being re-defined?

I, personally, don't care about UA's money. Kudos to Cimino for trying to make the film that matched his artistic ambition. I've read the production history and I do find it very interesting, but when I put the film on, the end result is what I see now.

I saw it screened in 3D. Incredible experience. I suppose of his films, Only God Forgives would be the one that I think would make the best Criterion release. Love that film. Having only seen Neon Demon twice theatrically, I am looking forward to viewing the blu at home tomorrow to see if it's as entertaining without the crowd reactions.

Thinking about Refn though, a Pusher box set would blow my mind.

I wonder if I'll be able to pick up Neon Demon from Redbox some time soon. I, too, liked OGF and intended to pick it up when it dipped to "giving it away" prices. haven't had a chance to see it a 2nd time yet.

Bronson was a good watch, too. Tom Hardy is really good!

Wow thanks for that. What an interesting documentary. Of course, I knew bits and pieces after all these years. But it was fascinating to see it all laid out, and it was very well done.

Thanks again.
