Ha, indeed. I can't get particularly excited over paying $30 for admittedly cool packaging.

This is where it helps to be region-free, as great films like The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner, Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, and This Sporting Life are all available on BD - along with other titles on DVD.
Criterion should license Saturday Night and Sunday Morning from MGM before it gets picked up by Kino, Olive or Twilight.

Saw a commercial for FilmStruck before my screening of Magnificent Seven at Regal theaters. Was very cool to see Criterion name dropped on the big screen, with highlights of many of their films.

I watched the first half of Dekalog over the past few days.

I honestly can't handle how good this is. I went in with extremely high expectations and have not been disappointed yet.

This is one of the greatest achievements of all-time.

EDIT: No matter how much I praise it, there's no justice done. Buy it and watch it for yourself.

They have Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, it was up on FilmStruck. (No doubt it was in the package of films they licensed from Woodfall Film Productions Ltd.)

Have not yet picked up the BD set, because it just started screening today at the Detroit Film Theatre - two segments per Saturday through November 5. I wanted to watch on the big screen first, and was blown away by the first two stories today! Will definitely be buying at one of the upcoming sales

Excellent news!

In addition, the Criterion Collection flash sale should be this week!

Any predictions on what day that might be?

I still have a $10 credit to use at their site. I will hopefully commit and buy $50+ of stuff for this sale, though there is that looming B&N sale too on top of everything else . I really wish CC's shipping prices weren't so ridiculous for a single title.

I just renewed my suscription to Hulu Plus for a month. Right now it's at a promotional rate of $5.99 / month for a year, then it goes up to $7.99. I only plan to be on for a month or two in order to watch as many Criterion titles as I can while they still have them. Figure I'd give people the heads-up on this offer, and remind them about Hulu losing Criterion's stuff too in case anyone wanted to do the same.

I'm going to put my two cents in for the Bressons on Hulu. L'Argent is great and Au Hasard Balthazar is just a devastating Masterpiece.

I'll be working on my Hulu all this month aswell. Haxan, The Ascent, and especially Gertrud are on the top of my queue.

The commercial I saw yesterday at the theater said October I believe, so it should be sometime this month.

Edit: There's a launch party in NYC this upcoming Thursday (Oct. 6th)

But of course they give priority to more "important" 60's films such as the two Valley of Dolls elephant droppings.

Excuse me, but Beyond the Valley of the Dolls is an outstanding film!

Maybe you should watch these films prior to criticizing them!

They've been trying to release BEYOND THE VALLEY OF THE DOLLS for about 25 years, so they'd obviously jump at the chance to finally release it. But, beyond that, just because something is up on a streaming service/digital download, doesn't mean that it is ready to release on Blu-ray.

I watched Days of Heaven today. I have seen it probably 10 times in my life and I've always loved it but today, I don't know, something was different. It easily became a top 10 best movie of all time for me. I guess where I am in life, I really connected with it more than I have previously. I love all of Malick's films but with this one, he was operating on a level that only a handful of other directors have reached.
