Is the other site Criterionforum. org ?

Yes I can attest to that! Have a great day!

The people who mod that place are hypocritical and sad. The whole thing reminds me of those literary clubs on college campuses, they even have their own hidden board to talk crap about members. It's like Criterion Mean Girls, except way less amusing.

It's a shame because there are some knowledgeable people there but there's a group of them that's hostile to anyone that's not a regular. Always with the little jabs and digs. Whenever I call someone out on it they back down.

Definitely, there are a lot of old in-depth posts worth reading and some great members (Michael B's posts are always informative and Bikey from Second Run keeps everyone well updated). However, getting sent odd threatening PMs from mods because they don't like what you said is so off putting it's not worth being a part of. Match the snark of one of them...lifetime ban. It's sad. Especially when they go back to their hidden board and eat virtual popcorn together.

Re: McCabe & Mrs. Miller - the DVD is showing as In Stock. Anyone got enough $ to burn to order it? I think that's a good sign that it's still on track for Tuesday though. I don't recall them ever pushing something so close to release day.

I watched the movie as a big WTF decay-of-the-society and enjoyed it quite a lot (though it drags in its 2nd half).

I think I read somewhere that they were planning to have more device support at launch date. For me, that would need to include Roku. We'll see. The annual subscription doesn't seem like a bad deal, especially considering I was paying nearly that much for Hulu Plus. With Hulu Plus, though, I had access to over 800 Criterion titles at any given time. I don't know if Filmstruck will be showing just a "curated" selection of Criterion titles or the whole enchilada. That would make a difference.

Hopefully Filmstruck coming to Apple TV "in the coming months" isn't too far away... that's my only streaming device for TV!

I'm not going to watch Criterion films on my phone -- David Lynch would be mad.

Nicolas Winding Refn disagrees with "David" though at the 14:39 mark here:

And someone please tell me that McCabe isn't delayed again. Maybe the October 28th thing means that they ran out of initial blu ray copies (if you pre-order today) and they're waiting for the next shipment from the factory which they won't get until the 28th. I just hope that amazon got their share.

I don't think that it's delayed because:

1. DVDBeaver's review has been out for weeks.
2. As someone mentions, I don't think they ever delayed anything this close to the release date.
3. I don't believe they ever delayed a release twice before.

From their current -

[Show spoiler]We started the Criterion newsletter and blog more than ten years ago with the promise to keep you up-to-date about new releases and any exciting goings-on around here. Today, we’re excited to share the latest news about the launch of FilmStruck and the Criterion Channel, which we think is truly a game changer for us, for our fans, and for all people who enjoy great films.

On October 19, the Criterion Collection and Turner Classic Movies will launch a subscription streaming service built by people who love movies for people who love movies. It will be unlike anything out there, with thematic programming, introductions, special features, and much more. FilmStruck, the primary service, programmed by the team at TCM, will feature a rotating selection of Criterion titles alongside movies licensed from sources around the world. A premium option for FilmStruck subscribers, the Criterion Channel will be our home base in the streaming space, programmed and produced by the Criterion team, where we can take our mission to a whole new level.

Criterion Channel subscribers will have unlimited access to the largest selection of Criterion titles ever available on a streaming service—all the time. Our own ever-expanding streaming library includes many of the best-known classics in the Criterion Collection, along with hundreds of rare films you won’t find in any other medium, but we’ll also be featuring full Criterion special editions of titles licensed from major studios as well as out-of-print titles and films that have never been available to us on home video. We’ve worked hard to make the Criterion Channel a worthwhile addition for our core Criterion Blu-ray and DVD customers and regular FilmStruck subscribers alike by creating original, channel-exclusive content, director profiles, live events, guest-curated series, and a programming rotation where there will be something new happening just about every night of the week.

We’ve had a great five years at Hulu, but the opportunity to build our own channel with the help of an incredible team like the one at TCM is a dream come true for our company. FilmStruck will be the exclusive streaming home of the Criterion Collection as of November 11, when our library will be leaving Hulu. The monthly cost of FilmStruck and the Criterion Channel together will be $10.99, but you can sign up for the FilmStruck newsletter to receive a free two-week trial offer when the services go live.

We have talked (and debated) for years about the best way to bring some sort of subscription plan to our viewers, and with FilmStruck and the Criterion Channel, we believe we’ve finally found it. The first week on the channel, we’re bringing back the out-of-print commentary from The Silence of the Lambs. Catch a double feature on Friday nights. Find a short with a feature on Tuesdays. The possibilities are endless, and we’ve just begun to explore them.

It’s been thirty-three years since Criterion published its first special edition laserdisc and nearly twenty since the dawn of DVD. The launch of FilmStruck and the Criterion Channel marks another exciting beginning for us. We are as committed as ever to publishing the world’s greatest films in definitive Blu-ray and DVD editions, but we think these new services are going to add a whole new dimension to the Criterion experience, and we hope you’ll give them a try.
- Jonathan Turell and Peter Becker

So it looks like Filmstruck launches on Oct. 19, but The Criterion Channel won't be available until Nov. 11.

Neon Demon was a good 'witch' film, depending on how you wanted to look at it! I also loooove the witch themes in Antichrist!, the recent Macbeth had an awesome portrayal of the witches too - I preferred them to Polanski's take on the witches.

But yeah... there are too many goofy witch films lol although back in the day I was a sucker for Buffy the Vampire Killer lol

-

Oh if anyones interested 'Hollyoaks' ( a really crappy 'soap' in UK ) has got some promo's for halloween and they have used the Suspiria theme and gone for the red/blue lights :P - nice little nod to an awesome film!

Unfortunately I only have streaming thru my bluray player so I can't get this. I can't use a Amazon fire stick since my HDTV is on the old side and has no place to plug it in.

Not much is being mentioned about the resolution. I thought I read that most films will be in HD but they will present some movies in 480p.
