You have two copies of Out1!

Even more impressive: spare shelf space

My wife doesn't like loud movies and such and especially with the newborn, I can't really crank up my system as it might damage her ears. I'm not a huge Stones fan outside of a select few songs but my god is this one encapsulating film. Just brilliant in the way everything is handled. I love the way the Maysles capture everything in cinematic form but still keep the rawness and integrity of the subject matter. It's like you're literally being transported to the 60's and these concerts. You never feel like an outside observer and always get caught up in the environment. It's really a great example of the "it has something for everyone" camp. It's great if you like documentaries, it's great if you're a music enthusiast, or simply one that likes films or pop culture history. One of my favorite blu-rays. It looks incredible and sounds even better.

Great post! My feelings on The Rolling Stones are about the same as yours. You sold it well, though!

Btw... What kind of beer was it?

For those trying to pre-load their carts in anticipation of a potential flash sale, don't bother. Even when logged in, items won't remain in your cart. Most annoying (though you can, of course, add items to your wish list and then click 'add to cart' once the sale is live).

I just hope that amazon got their share.

I don't think that it's delayed because:

1. DVDBeaver's review has been out for weeks.
2. As someone mentions, I don't think they ever delayed anything this close to the release date.
3. I don't believe they ever delayed a release twice before.
Mine shipped today from deepdiscount.

I joked about it, but perhaps Criterion is delaying it on their site because the release date is possibly the date of their flash sale and they don't want it included in it

Yeah.. That makes me feel a great deal better actually. Because with amazon's express shipping, I might get mine as early as Thursday here in Denmark. Maybe even Wednesday if they ship it on Monday.

Thanks for the review. I remember seeing Gimme Shelter in the theater when it came out. I was a Tuesday night and there were about 5 people in the theater. Really powerful film, with great music. As crazy as it seems today, it wasn't uncommon back then for these types of shows to use Hell's Angels for security. It was a more innocent time, I guess.

Good luck with Matthew. It sounds pretty hairy.

The Criterion Blu-ray of Gimme Shelter is magnificent. I watched mine last year when I was prepping for the Rolling Stones concert here in Atlanta.

By the way...not really Criterion-related, but it relates to this particular film...

The new 15-CD box set, The Rolling Stones in Mono, which includes all of the Stones albums up through Let It Bleed in mono, even including both the US and UK versions of the applicable albums, is one that I've been eyeing for the past few months, but the price was too rich for my blood.

The Rolling Stones in Mono dropped down to $189 on Amazon a couple of days back, and I was even more tempted, but still didn't bite.

Today, however, I checked Amazon UK on a whim, and was able to order the box set for $137, including shipping, because of the low British pounds vs. US dollars exchange rate at the moment.

My wallet is still taking a big hit, but that's a great price, especially considering that I do not own most of the earlier albums in the set. This is a good way for me to get those early albums that I've been meaning to own for years and years.

Nope, that's the IVAR from Ikea. It's real wood, and is kinda like the LEGOs of shelves. You buy the pieces you want then can put it together in lots of different ways.

Thanks! As far as the beer, well normally I'd crack open a Budweiser but had to go for a cheap drunk this time around and bought a case of Icehouse. Not the greatest but it gets the job done.

Thanks dude. Still have power and internet but the worst is to come in the next few hours and I'm sure I'll lose both at some point. Wind and rain really just started picking about an hour or so ago where I'm at.

Haha. If I lost any of my collection I'd be devastated and since my wife and kid is at a family member's house, I'd definitely have to save my dogs first.

Don't mean to be clogging thread guys, just bored as shit working on another case of brews. Afraid to start a movie because if the power goes out in the middle of it...well that would suck.

You mean your home theater set-up isn't on generator power? Seriously, take care of those dogs. The blu rays can be replaced, even the OOP ones. And good luck.
