I don't have a generator. I've been lucky to have power this long. But yeah, knowing the wife and kid are safe, the dogs are priority in case anything happens. Fortunately it's almost over with.

A bit pale and green-ish though (it seems).

However, I'm flabbagastered that Criterion chose to cram 3 movies per disc while it's a 3-disc set. Shogun Assassin turns out to be given more space to breathe despite being the one movie sourced from an older master.

"When you spend some serious time talking to film lovers, you start to see that some people believe film should exist explicitly as an art form, that in some way the work needs to elevate or speak to the human condition."

As much as I appreciate the power of great cinematic masterworks that elevate the human condition, I simply cannot imagine a world in which a film like Step Brothers didn't exist.

I would not survive in a world like that.

...so cold and unforgiving.

Watched the movie Close-Up for the first time, also my first Kiarostami film. It was really a great watch. It's such a unique film in that it's based off true events, filmed as a documentary, and features the actual real life people involved, but still manages to feel like a fictional movie at times too. I only learned about the extent of this being a documentary, and the cast being the actual people after I watched it, so my mind is kind of blown right now. I'm just amazed at how "scripted" their unscripted dialogue felt, as well as how natural the re-enactments were. The dialogue throughout, and the little doses of social commentary of life in Iran at thst time were really thought-provoking.

This is one of the few movies that are uniquerer than other unique movies.

(yeah, I just said "uniquerer". So sue me! I'll show the movie to the jury and win!)

Check out Cohen's release of The Wind Will Always Carry Us, another excellent Kiarostami. As is Criterion's Certified Copy. On DVD, Artficial Eye's versions of Ten and The a Taste Of Cherry can be had very cheap and are of decent quality.

Basically there is no bad Kiarostami

Thanks, I've been watching through Hulu, and they have The Wind Will Carry Us, Like Someone in Love, Taste of Cherry, and Where is the Friend's Home? So I'm going to try and check them all out.

Can we please get more Harold Lloyd, Criterion? We've pretty much run through all Chaplin's best films save The Circus, and Keaton is pretty much covered by others. We need more Lloyd. There is seemingly quite a few great silent features left and then there was the talk of his talkies being released as a box set and shorts that get restored and released as supplements... A lot left to get to

No bad films perhaps, but they certainly aren't all winners.

I just ordered the Region B release of Cross of Iron. The transfer looks sharp in the Beaver screen caps, although very "green." But the price is so good right now I figured it worth it. Very good film.

I reckon we're going to get some soon. Most likely Straw Dogs. Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid would be cool as well.

I've been watching the Criterion discs from 2010 that were listed as potentially affected by disc rot and it seems my copy of Sanjuro has it pretty bad.

Did Criterion ever expand the replacement program beyond the initial ten or am I stuck with this?
