Just to answer my previous question in case anybody else is interested, looks like Criterion movies on Hulu will be disappearing until November 11:

12 unwatched out of 630? Thats extremely good, I'd say. I probably have close to 20 out of my 200.

12/138, was talking about criterions only...that includes multi movie sets which I have not fully watched, counted as 1 unwatched. Also by watched, I meant watched in criterion blu format...These 12

America Lost & Found (Out of 7, watched 2 in any format, 1 in criterion blu)
Carlos (Never watched)
La Dolce Vita (Never watched)
L'Eclisse (Never watched)
Jacques Demy (Out of 6, watched 2 in any format, 2 in criterion blu)
The Great Beauty (Watched in DVD format before)
Ikiru (Watched in DVD format before)
Pierre Etaix (Out of 5, watched 2 in any format, 0 in criterion blu)
Seven Samurai (Watched in DVD format before)
Solaris (Never watched)
Il Sorpasso (Watched in DVD format before)
The Road Trilogy (Out of 3, watched 1 in any format, 0 in criterion blu)

I don't even want to think about how many of my Criterions I haven't watched yet. The problem is that I've been buying so many movies over the last 16 months or so, with Criterion making up about 20%, there's no way I could keep up. I'd guess I'm at around 50% unwatched--before placing my Flash sale order just now, which will drop that significantly. Considering I've added about 650 blus over that time period, I don't think that's too terrible. They'll all get watched more than once now that I've been feeling so much better. I'm about to go on a big run. Not being able to get Filmstruck until early next year, some time, will help.

They must have started the Flash sale later than usual. Or, I just missed the header on the top of the page when I checked my phone at 11 am.

Here's what I ended up buying. A pretty eclectic group of films, methinks.

The Man Who Knew Too Much
The 39 Steps
Foreign Correspondent
The Lady Vanishes (Classic Hitchcock box set)
Y tu mamá también
Breaking the Waves
Code Unknown
Sansho the Bailiff
Godzilla
Like Someone in Love
Don't Look Now
In The Realm of Senses
Antichrist
Muriel, or Time of Return

I was really tempted to grab Dekalog, too, but I'm going to wait until the Barnes & Noble sale next month. With my membership discount, and a nice coupon, I can get it for a much better price. They don't have the Classic Hitchcock set, for some reason, so it made sense to grab that now.

Very excited to get these in. I'm going to be a very busy boy.

Lucky day for me at work, someone traded in a bunch of Criterion blu-ray, all in immaculate condition. Got The Double Life Of Veronique, Repo Man, Repulsion, and The Spy Who Came In From The Cold, for about $40 total.

There's no free shipping price point if you live in Hawaii or Alaska.

I don't know if America Lost and Found is on the verge of being OOS or not, but the risk is too great for me to ignore, so I had to order it. That, and the Trilogía de Guillermo del Toro.

That's $100 more than my already peaked monthly budget would allow.

Well, if I was living in Alaska, I'd be too busy chopping wood year-round and if I was living in Hawaii, I'd be too busy surfing waves! Wouldn't have time to watch or collect Criterion blu-rays in those states! J/k.

Well... I'm sold.
I'm really looking forward to this. I have it on Warner's LD, and Warner Japan DVD, and the colors are nothing short of astonishingly rich. I can't wait to see what they look like on a Criterion Blu.

A friend of mine guessed that the sale was delayed to coincide with the release of Pan's Labyrinth and the Guillermo Trilogy - I think he's probably right. In that case, it was a calculated move by Criterion, judging that they'd offset any potential loss from being too close to the B&N sale by having the sale include upcoming releases that they thought would be very popular.

By including Pan's Labyrinth in particular, they also had the potential to bring in new customers - who would then spend more money on other Criterion releases. (Especially US customers - not me, sadly - to whom they apparently offer free shipping at 3 titles I learned today.) Case in point, me. First-time customer - came for Pan's Labyrinth, stayed for Devil's Backbone and The Game.

It was certainly an unusual move to change the window of the sale date, since Criterion's operations are usually as predictable as "clockwork" according to my friend, a long-long-time customer.

Anyway, Criterion will be finding out the results of their decision very soon.

I always think of forums as representing the most loyal and outspoken customers, which is an important but I believe generally small segment of the overall market - although perhaps forum-goers represent a larger portion of the Criterion market, as their products are more of a specialty market. I can only imagine the market analysis data that Criterion have based on all their customer records and email marketing, and they wouldn't have made the decision lightly. They know their customer base.

It's an interesting topic, but as long as the sale wasn't a devastating failure and the loss of revenue somehow manages to put them out of business, I'm not personally worried about whether or not changing the date of their yearly sale made it less of a success this year or not

Just thought my Criterion homies would appreciate that one. Have a feeling that went over a lot of Adult Swim watchers heads but I laughed for quite a few minutes. So have to give Rick & Morty a high five for that one.
Digging this up, I actually just watched this episode, this is a crazy series that just keeps getting better and better, and also thought it was quite funny how they use his name, actually the first time Rick says: "I really Cronenberged the World didn't I?"

Other references so far they make fun of Inception heavily, and there is an episode with something similar to The Thirteenth Floor

Picked up

Cat People
Beyond The Valley of the Dolls
YiYi
The Road Trilogy

Thinking of making another quick purchase bc Im only $22 away from a credit. I think I need three for free shipping though and Zatoichi is the only other title I really want but there is no way I can spend that much right now evenwith 50% off. Thinking about

McCabe
Mr. Verdoux

Gotta have something to watch after a hard day at the beach! Anyway, I picked up:
Cat People
McCabe & Mrs. Miller

That'll hold me until the B&N sale.

For anybody: Maybe a silly question, but if you accumulate enough "loyalty points" for a $50 gift certificate while in the process of placing an order (through criterion.com), can the gift certificate be used on that same order? Or do you have to wait until your next order? (Thanks)
