Films in the collection that would make my top ten:

Mulholland Dr., Persona, Nashville and The Double Life of Veronique (although I don't personally own the latter two and have the UK counterparts).

A Simple Man?? Eh?

Do you mean A Serious Man or A Simple Plan?

Simple Plan shouldn't be this obscure! Watch it folks.

Films that might be on my Top 10-
-Mulholland Drive (Love this film, it's keeps on giving)
-The Graduate (Beautifully crafted on every technical quality)
-The Last Picture Show (Wonderfully tragic)
-Total Recall 1990 (Either an Arnie film or a Verhoeven film)
-Monty Python and the Holy Grail (The jokes never get old)
-Blow Out (A wonderfully executed thriller, courtesy of De Palma)

To be honest, I've only been collecting select Criterion films for maybe ten years or so. I think my first one was a DVD of "And God Created Woman..." (1956) with the luscious Brigitte Bardot. I still have it on my shelf. It looks like it was put out in 2000 and has a spine number of 77.
Laserdiscs were a different world...I had Song of the South on Laser.

The studios are now too politically correct to issue on Blu-ray. Though Birth of a Nation is good for Blu, go figure....

As to how many of my Top 10 are or were on Criterion, that's an interesting question. I don't really have a Top 10, as it's always changing, and there are simply too many films I haven't seen. But ...

If I had to name some from the films that probably would be in or near my Top 10, and ones I actually OWN or did own (not necessarily in order or anything):

Contempt (Godard, 1963) -- I had this on DVD from Criterion (#171). I now have the Studio Canal release on Blu.

Three Colors: Red (Kieslowski, 1994) -- Simply gorgeous, moving, thoughtful, compelling. In short, it's what films should be. I have it in the form of the Trilogy, which is #587. I had had the DVD version, but I don't remember the spine.

La Dolce Vita (Fellini, 1960) -- Love this release. This is what film is. #733.

Persona (Bergman, 1966) -- #701 is one of the most powerful psychological films ever made. Then again, Bergman. So, what do you expect?

Mulholland Dr. (Lynch, 2001) -- Lynch's masterpiece, #779, is one that I cried for over and over and over again ... and finally got!

L'Avventura (Antonioni, 1960) -- Easily one of my favorites, and I could include the other two in the trilogy, but I'm tired of typing. #98

There are numerous Godard films I could list. And others. But like I said, tired of typing.
"L'Avventura" is a great one that I still need to get! I have no idea why I haven't purchased it besides the fact that I have an old VHS copy and played it often. Perhaps because I still own it, I never put it at the top of the blu list. But it's definitely somewhere outside my top ten.

I did a really bad job at poking fun at this a few pages ago, but no one picked up on it

You won't believe how beautiful it is. The Criterion edition is just stunning. It needs to go to the top of your list, like now.

A Simple Plan really needs a U.S. blu-ray release. I still cannot believe its still only available on U.S. DVD.

This film is a cross between The Lookout and Fargo, but even more entertaining. Yes, dare I say, this film is more entertaining than Fargo, at least to me.

Maybe add an open canopy bed w/ tapestries draped above. Print of Night and The City slanted below the tapestries so no one gets bored.

A Simple Plan is terrific, as is A Serious Man. Both filmed in Minnesota, BTW.

I will admit to never having seen A Serious Man ... I know, I know.

But there are really people who haven't seen A Simple Plan? Damn. That's a great film.

"A Serious Man" is one of the Coens' best films IMO. I think the running Jolly Roger jokes are probably the funniest thing they've ever done.

A rather restrained order for me, but lots of goodies!

I almost ran clear over my UPS delivery girl when she pulled up to my house. I couldn't contain my excitement. The only question is, now, what do I watch first?

What are your early predictions for the hints in Criterion's New Year's drawing? I'm guessing that there are going to be a ton of Warner titles. My predictions for hints and their 2017 releases:

-After Hours
-Blow-Up
-Barry Lyndon
-Barton Fink
-Scarecrow
-The Virgin Spring
-Stalker
-One or more of the recently OOP MGM Hitchcock blu rays

Watched Clouds of Sils Maria this morning. Excellent film. Binoche and Stewart were absolutely captivating. Even Moretz, who I sort of hate, was really good. This is a film that should get a lot more love than it does.
