I get what you're saying.

Part of what attached me to the film in my initial viewing is how the viewer becomes a juror and goes back to the scene of the crime in order to figure out whether the suspect did or did not commit the crime.

For the longest time Criterion branded their DVD releases with this:

About 12 years ago they refreshed their logo and came up with this:

The "Wacky C" seemed to accompany a lot of DVD re-issues. I believe when the revamped logo was issued that's the name Criterion called it.

I always associated the word "camp" with a man in drag squealing like a shoolgirl..

Speaking of camp, how does the American remake of "la cage aux folles" (the birdcage) compare to the original? I was surprised to see the remake being praised while the original was sort of dismissed for playing up stereotypes and having caricatures of homosexuals.

Its ok but no where near as good as the original - I found the remakes cast to be annoying... defo stick with original lol

Yeah, pretty much. The term originates from Polari, the secret language used by gay theatrical types in Britain during the years when homosexuality was illegal. It basically means exaggerated and over-the-top, with a little tinge of homoeroticism thrown in the mix.

No, it's all bona, luv.

You're from England, you must be familiar with Polari. Kenneth Williams used to speak it all the time. Have you ever heard the Julian and Sandy skits?

-Barton Fink
-Scarecrow
-The Virgin Spring
-Stalker
-One or more of the recently OOP MGM Hitchcock blu rays
Barton Fink is coming in 2017!

Note to self: strike 'camping trip to Canada' from bucket list.

Then again...what's a bucket list for if not to broaden ones horizons...

On the subject of drag... would love to see 'Priscilla Queen of the Desert' and 'To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything! Julie Newmar' added to the collection... great films, need more attention :P

2017 prediction: The Koker Trilogy

Blow Up seems like a certainty too. If not next year then in 2018. Zabriskie Point is also a distinct possibility given Criterion's affinity for Antonioni.

It is a shame that The Passenger will probably end up being released by Twilight Time though.

I'd like to see more Tarkovsky, but only if the transfers are better than the ones we have seen so far, which have been adequate but rather unimpressive on the whole.

I'd also love to see Sokurov on Criterion, particularly his earlier, less well known masterworks like Days of Eclipse, but I'm not holding my breath.

It saddens me that I didn't know that.

Looks like an interesting film. I'll definitely be looking into it.

Morrison was a film student at UCLA where Josef von Sternberg was instructing. This was after he had retired from filmmaking. Morrison was one of his students and he idolized von Sternberg. It's also where Morrison knew fellow student Francis Ford Coppola. You see, there was another reason Coppola used The End to begin Apocalypse Now!
