If there is one film that deserves Blu-ray treatment AND by Criterion, it is Arsenic and Old Lace. Who is with me?

It's one of many that would be worthy of the CC treatment, but I'd be just as happy if WAC put it out.

They'd just release a Blu-ray. I'm looking for a bunch of bonus features. So much to work with: Frank Capra, stage-to-screen adaptation, Cary Grant (they did one of his films this year, and another due in January), stuff with Boris Karloff the original Jonathan Brewster. I feel like CC can go to town on this, and I'd be right there with my money to hand over.

Whereas with the Friday series, even the best ones don't really rise above the level of crude, B-movie exploitation imo.

...even if they're entertaining.
I love both series equally. When I was a kid I'd watch them endlessly. I even love Freddy's Dead as I first saw it on WGN Halloween Night when I was 10.

It'd be great to get a stand alone release from somewhere in the world.
Like a lot of other Godard films, there is a release from Japan, but those are always incredibly expensive.

There is also this recently released set in the UK:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Godar...3697/#Overview

Which probably means A Woman is a Woman and Alphaville might get a standalone release in the near future there.

It sucks how these StudioCanal titles get stuck in limbo in the US market, only Contempt was released here and that was back in 2010, so the possible UK releases are our only hope.

There's a German release that includes both cuts of SFAM and Saraband, so masters exist. Not sure the quality though, since there are only German subs and I really don't feel like adding my own.

I made my first home purchase almost a year and a half ago, and House (Hausu) was the first movie that I watched in the new home. The movie is already otherworldly enough, but it was quite an experience seeing it when I was stressed out by the thought of being a homeowner, having a mortgage, actually having to repair things myself (or pay to have them repaired), and so on.

At any rate, it's a quality Criterion title, simply because it comes across like the most macabre and graphic Scooby-Doo cartoon in the world.

Scarier films for a new homeowner:

Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House (would make a great Criterion)
George Washington Slept Here (ditto)
And, of course-The Money Pit

I went to a couple of stores in my area called Bargain Hunt and they had boxes of movies for a $1 a piece, and as I dug through the boxes I was surprised to find, and bought, The Red Shoes, The Last Emperor, and Les dames du Bois de Boulogne in great condition.

I ended up spending 4 and a half hour last night with my Criterion blu-ray of The Player.

Yes, you heard right. 4 AND A HALF HOURS!

How you ask? Simple. The movie was just over 2 hours and then I watched all of the supplements right afterwards!

Have I officially gone insane?

Well, a few days ago I did mention this theory, esp. being that this wasn't the first time I saw The Player.

The weird thing is, Robert Altman isn't even one of my favorite directors. He's a director I admire a lot, but his films somehow don't resonate with me. I know he had 65 actors and writers in that film playing themselves which is AMAZING since I can't think of another director who is so likable with so many famous actors and actresses.

I mean, I watched The Player last night, for the first time in prob. 15 years. It was required viewing in one of my film classes back in college. The opening 8 and a half minute tracking shot is the stuff of pure legend.

My jaw dropped and I was enthralled at all of the cameo appearances and famous actors and actresses in this film. It's a bit too much though for me. The story is "spherical" as Altman puts it, not linear. He likes to surround that sphere with emotion and feeling as he put it in an interview. It's not easy to watch his films in my opinion, but they are unlike any other kinds of films in the history of the human race.

So even though Altman likes to use elements of suspense, drama, comedy and mystery in his movies, I admire him for that, but once again, its hard for me to really watch these films more than once or twice. The ensemble cast he puts together is quite superb though without a doubt.

@Pedro again... Made in USA is nice to look at but it is a pretty incoherent mess. Not as grating as Weekend (a film I actually admire) but seemingly more sloppy.

My Cubs just eeked out a victory in probably the tensest game I've seen in my life. I'm so wound up that I'm tempted to put Weekend in the player. But... Work tomorrow. :-(

When I first saw The Double Life of Veronique, I loved it so much I rewatched it again straight after, then I did a 3rd viewing with the commentary track... then I did a 4th viewing! all back to back!

Best day ever!

Would anyone recommend a blind buy of Dekalog??

I've been binge watching a whole lot of series as of late, so I thought I might pick this up with the upcoming B&N sale.

I confess, I have seen any Kieślowski films before, so I was either going to start with this or Three Colors.

Thoughts??
