Thanks for the counter points on In a Lonely Place everyone.

Sorry I didn't like the movie (I genuinely am. I really was excited for it).

YES!
At least, if you like violent samurai movies it is. They're a lot of fun if you are able to suspend disbelief.

It's about 10% of the item or service you purchased getting added on top of the price.

Didn't apply to online shopping from overseas, though.

But next year (I think), they're going to add that to the overseas online shopping , too.

As if my blu-ray collecting hobby NEEDED to be more costly...

Grrr still says its at customs.... delivery slot is still 12 pm though, just hoping they have not updated site.

Why do they make it so nerve racking, just update site and just say if there will be any extra charges lol...

I will sacrifice a bluray upgrade of Le Samouraï to the customs gods in exchange for a customs charges free delivery.

I believe our free threshold will still remain quite high though even after the changes, relatively speaking (the UK's is 15 GBP I believe). I mean it's currently ridiculously high at $AU1000.

It is pretty crap that we can end up paying double... I think they should raise it :/ just not worth accepting a package worth £16 or a/e when we have to pay so much to accept it >.>

UPS still says customs has my parcel.... but he time slot for delivery is today at 12... who knows what's happening lol

I remember talk a few years ago that HMRC wanted the limit raised to £50 because below that it is not worth collecting. I have a theory that the change was communicated to them verbally and was misheard.

It's really annoying I agree. Luckily with B&N they seem to mark them as books and I've actually only been stung for customs once with them (out of about 5 orders over the years), so overall it's usually worth me ordering form them. If you have anyone in NA who can help - get them to forward them on to you and mark it as a gift under $40 on the customs form

A shame the Les Blank box and A Poem is a Naked Person haven't been reviewed. They're marvellous and among my favourite releases in recent years.

Even weirder... Why hasn't Aparajito and Apur Sansar been reviewed? The Apu Trilogy is one of Criterion's most important releases. Strange.

I watched Cat People last night. It came, pretty much, as it had been advertised. It is quite an achievement that the film doesn’t come off as more campy considering the no budget thrills and the either off screen or implied terror. It is a little bit of a slow starter, but it picks up when the second woman takes on a more prominent role in the story.

I liked it. I’d rank it above The Innocents and The Uninvited. About on par with Don’t Look Now, but well below Kwaidan and Rosemary’s Baby. So somewhere in the middle of the pack for Criterion horror.

Cat People better than Don't Look Now or The Innocents? Drugs are a hell of a thing man.
