Lovely Bones made me very worried about future Peter Jackson films. I went in with lowered expectations and left surprisingly disillusioned.

HEY CC...got my Momitsu 799 in the mail today!

So far...I've tested region 1 and region A content, just to make sure it worked at all. Passes that test.

Maybe I got lucky...but this player is as quiet as my Panny BD-55...what gives?...I thought you said these were noisy?

I'm still waiting on my La Planete Sauvage from Eureka! (should be later in the week), but my wife got her Inspector Campion DVD...Acorn Media...Region 2...PAL. I didn't have to input any codes at all...must have been preset for all regions. I'll see what happens when I throw a region B BD at it later this week.

So far...I'm impressed. Only thing is the audio...I'm using a dig. co-ax cable (as my receiver won't pass audio via HDMI) and my receiver is only seeing DD pro-logic...already checked the player settings. I'm getting all 5.1 channels and my wifes DVD is playing soley in the front channel, so it's not a big deal.

I can't believe I've held off for so long. And in my wife's case, the reason to buy UK was price...$27.00 compared to $130.00

Very happy so far and will give it both thumbs up after verifying successful BD region B play.

EDIT: Figured out audio issue...FORGOT that I needed to bitstream 5.1 w/Dig. co-ax cable...my Panny is set up as "multi-channel", so I let the player send the audio as PCM and not bitstreamed.

I don't have the Momitsu, but on mine you only need to set the player for Blu-rays, and DVDs play automatically regardless of NTSC/PAL or Region.

I didn't even see it, it looked terrible. I hope he realized from that movie that he should only direct epics from now on.

I have enjoyed all his movies except for Heavenly Creatures

Godard should do the 3rd one, you know, since Hollywood wants him to be a part of them now.

is it worth grabbing cases for other movies I hope to get later during the hopeful holiday B&N sale (like Bottle Rocket and Chungking Express) or are they being replaced in stores with the normal case? I know I saw a copy of Bottle Rocket at a Barnes & Noble during the summer sale in a regular case
I would go for it. I did. I have not seen some of them in stores with the new cases. Bottle Rocket was the only one and I picked it up. I put my CCOBB in one of my extra new style cases so it would look like the rest of the CC Blu's.

Have you seen Bad Taste, Dead Alive, or Meet the Feebles?

And if you think Heavenly Creatures is one of the best films of the 90s......I feel sorry for you

Programming Alert: If you guys get MGM HD, Sweet Smell of Success is playing Tuesday at 10pm. It must be the HD transfer Criterion is working on.

Cool...that's what I'm thinking.

CC's got one...so I've got my technical support all taken care of.

I'm still amazed at the conversion from PAL to NTSC...played DVD right out of the box.

Same here...it was either HDNet Movies or MGM-HD that showed Charade a month or so ago.

Sometimes timing can be good.

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment just signed a multi year deal to produce and distribute Image Entertainment's catalog"

I wonder since the Image/Criterion relationship will be effected by this, and now we know how Criterion was able to get the BBS set, could Taxi Driver be next? Who knows.

They definitely play some good stuff, was happily surprised to see Rohmer's Pauline at the Beach playing one day, but I hate the lion roar and commercials right in the middle of the films. It scares me every time because it's louder than the film's audio and always comes up when I'm least expecting it.
