Being a fan of Under the Skin AND Terrence Malick, my expectations are quite high after reading your comments.
The soundtrack is unlike anything I've ever heard to be honest. It's got a lot of organic components and elements but is wholly futuristic for sure. Sounds a bit like Hindu elements and African elements mixed together. But that's just the beginning. Jóhann Jóhannsson is great. There's even some post-rock Sigur Ros in there from this Icelandic composer.

That's great you enjoyed it too! As a Terrence Malick fan, I knew you'd approve!!!!

Isn't it a bit Malickesque? Or Malickian? Ha! There will be many second viewings of this film I foresee.

I literally walked 2 miles home and ran back to the cinema lol I love it when a film has this affect, it's like a drug! This is his best film no doubt about it!

I can't get over how phenomenal the film is, the soundtrack was perfection against the imagery! And amazing use of Max Richters beautiful music!

I must say I wasn't that impressed by Arrival visually, it was a very good movie though, I liked the clinical and realistic approach that somehow reminded me of The Martian.

Also I see how some of the early and later scenes would remind us of Malick specially Tree of Life, but other than that I thought visually the film wasn't that impressive considering we are talking sci-fi here, anyway what it doesn't have in visuals it has in very interesting themes so I think it's a good thing this didn't evolve into an unmanageable big blockbuster like let's say Interstellar.

I thought the visuals were very original and refreshing in this genre - and the cinematography was gorgeous especially in the intro/ending sequences!

Indeed. It would feel incomplete without it.

It's more of Linklater's (imho sophomoric) navel-gazing style, so if that's your thing, you'll love it. I haven't seen the first two since college and I found them insufferable even then, but I'm excited they're coming out so we can free up those expectation slots

How's that?

Due to the rabidness of his fans, we Linklater non-fans don't speak up much, but... if I want to watch two people talking in repose or while walking around, I'll always take Rohmer.

I would take both, unfortunately there is no CC blu-ray out there of Rohmer still

To be fair not every Linklater film can be thrown together as if they were all similar, there's the Before Trilogy, then there's School of Rock, then Boyhood.

Through the spoilers iScottie posted a few pages prior. There's a trick where you add subsequent numbers to a Criterion page link, you get phantom pages for individual artists involved in a certain movie, thus, the movie can be determined for release by Criterion.

School of Rock is a different beast, but I think Boyhood is certainly akin, if not in the same category as the Before Trilogy, given the explicit interest in time and the preponderance of philosophizing. The navel-gazing just feels age-appropriate in Boyhood.

That's the last I'll say of Linklater, though. It isn't my intent to rain on anyone's parade, and I'm happy you folks are happy! I'll show myself out now...

Meanwhile,
[Show spoiler]Almodovar
! And I'm curious to see more
[Show spoiler]Curtiz
. I'll have to check that one out on Filmstruck eventually...

The Mildred Pierce artwork is a thing of beauty. This Blu-ray is going to be an excellent birthday present to myself.

The Before trilogy will be the only the 4th Criterion I buy on release day that isn't during the B&N sales. The Lady Vanishes, Fish Tank, and Dr. Strangelove being the others.

Really, Mildred Pierce may be my favorite Criterion cover of all time. I hope they offer it as a poster.
