It can be improved upon. Raise a glass for the fact it will not be a plastic case release.

Yeah, I caught it on TCM for the first time pretty recently too. I want to say within the last year or so.

And my expectations were pretty exactly where it sounds like yours were: this should be a decent enough way to kill a couple hours and it was definitely that and a lot more.

I didn't think 'OMG, where has this been all my life' but I really enjoyed it. It was a clever, engaging story with good to very good performances and it looked freaking gorgeous. And it channeled Hitchcock in all the good ways without looking like it was channeling Hitchcock.

I don't really dig the peach color either. Would have preferred black if that's the style/art they wanted to do.

ew, ok but, does that orange/yellow spot has something surreal to do with the trilogy? I mean is not bad but it doesn't come accross as the movies.

Never seen the films but I was taking a guess it was a visual representation of the titles... the sun?

I liked Sam Smiths simple posters (hes worked on a lot of Criterion covers).

Nice colour scheme as well.

Yeah, what's with the spoiler tags? The name of a potential or actual forthcoming release is not revealing something that some people might not want to see, IMO. It's not a plot - it's a freaking film title! I think it's ridiculous. If they don't want to know what's forthcoming, why would anyone be reading this thread in the first place?

Some people like the excitement of finding out releases as Criterion put them up, but they also like the hype and chat on these boards. Its just nice putting spoilers for those people who want it as a surprise but want to get involved with discussions. Doesn't hurt anyone putting them as spoilers?

Has anyone seen Jean Gremillon Le ciel est à vous (The Woman Who Dared)?

This was my last Hulu watch from the Criterion collection, and must say I was highly impressed by it, the way the relationship of the main characters develops is full of little simple but incredibly touching scenes.

A shame how it appears the film doesn't really have a big audience as most other Gremillon films it appears, now I really need to watch those others in the eclipse set.

Yeah, actually, that's exactly what it does.

Shaking the presents and trying to figure out what you're getting is one thing. That can be a lot of fun.

Hacking into your parent's Amazon account and looking through their order history?

Not so much.

Hey there everyone,

In just about 12 hours from now I'll be flying to NYC to attend the screening + live orchestra of The Tree of Life at the BAM.

Fellow blu-ray.com forum threaders SammyJankis and RojD will also be attending the event.

I've coordinated with them to have a Criterion meet-up at Videology (a bar) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn on Sat. night around 11 PM.

If anyone here who lives in the NYC area wants to come meet up with the three of us, let me know by PM'ing me on here!

It would be great to meet up with others who happen to be in the city. The thread for the event is here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=278120

It looks like a nipple.

Or a pimple.

Pimple on a nipple, perhaps?

With all the criticism of the placeholder cover for the Before Trilogy, I think I should throw in my two cents about this topic.

I think this artwork looks empty. The only thing on it is three different coloured splotches on a faded orange background with the film's titles. There doesn't seem to be a definition to the cover, no real sense of purpose. Thankfully, it isn't the final artwork, so maybe Criterion will listen to our comments and change it. If so, the Sam Smiths artworks (brought up by Polaroid) works very well. If this set is a Digipack with the films in separate cases (to which it would most likely will), then those artworks can be used on the separate cases.

I'd love to see something similar to Three Colors Trilogy - I find that set so intimate and beautiful. I haven't seen The Before Trilogy but in guessing its an intimate and beautiful set of films.. with the odd dramas and upset thrown in?).

Soem cool artworks I found:

Well, folks, I tried doing a quick and easy Photoshop to see if I could make the current "not final" Before Trilogy box art look any better using only the existing design. Keep in mind, this is very rough around the edges. My conclusion: you can't put lipstick on a pig. Really hope they throw out this horrible cover entirely.

I just whipped up my own Criterion concept art for The Before Trilogy. I'm not a professional artist, so I'm sure my idea can be approved upon by someone at Criterion, but even this is miles ahead of what we might actually get IMO.
