Fingers crossed then. Between the bird and the football, I can't see it being anything else.

Talking about Bergman, in view of MGM's current financial situation, I'm wondering whether Criterion might be able to persuade them to license out some of the Bergman films they own, e.g. Persona, Hour Of The Wolf, Shame and The Passion Of Anna. These are masterworks that ought to be on Blu-ray, and I can't see MGM themselves being the slightest bit interested in doing the work needed to release them.

I'm not the biggest Bergman fan, but if Criterion could get blu rights for Persona and Hour Of The Wolf, I would be a very happy guy.

I get the bird but what's the soccer ball mean? Hadn't heard of this film before but it sounds very good.

There is a well known scene in the movie where a bullying ass of a school teacher participates in a football match with a class of boys, whilst commentating (TV style) and refereeing the game as well.

It's a nice comedic situation in a quite bleak film.

There's some thick northern (Yorkshire) accents for the more discerning ear to enjoy in this one.

Are we talking Red Riding-like accents?

That would be them, however the fact that much of the dialogue is spoken by working class teenagers means that they are somewhat harsher than in Red Riding.

Here is the football scene, it gives a good indication.

I see. I was one of the people who didn't have a problem with RRT's Yorkshire accents so KES shouldn't bother me in the least.

Should be an excellent release.

Criterion removing 66 titles from Netflix on September 22nd. Will Criterion go for Hulu, Mubi or resign with Netflix or all three?

Kndy,

I saw that you have Ingmar Bergman: Four Masterworks. A question, since I own all those movies already, in that set does the movies have their old cover art, or are they updated with the wacky C? I was always curious of that.

I like the darker look of Criterions (grey levels). I'm not one for picking on if a movie's transfer is the right contrast level (will do though on color films), I just like my black and white films dark (grey levels, not blacks) for some reason. The little show of grain helps Criterion's blacks look clearer and the greys look darker. The grain on the SC shows more because it looks like they went with a lighter/higher contrast level.

The car hood shot looks weird though. The SC's look darker and lighter. The shirt is almost ghost-like, but the pants and shadows are darker than Criterions. The blacks take away much detail. I just like the C's look.

The blu packaging is a little different between the Criterion dvd and blu. The big photo isn't there on the inside digi (not a 4 sided fold-out being the reason), but it looks good.
