You're right - maybe I should brush off "silly posts," but I don't suffer fools too well. I don't think that defending yourself or in other instances, defending an opinion, means that it is an"angry" argument, but whatever. |

I mentioned it on the forum, too. Many recommended me Belle de Jour, as well; I still haven't seen it. Tristana was the second Buñuel film I've seen. I have seen it about two or three times. I want to read the novel, but I can find it in Spanish. Need more practice, and in general to read for pleasure, in Spanish; so far I've only read two books in Spanish: Gabriel García Márquez's Relato de un náufrago and Juan Rulfo's El Llano en Llamas. I found the translated one published by NYRB Classics. Maybe I'll read this winter break, even though my reading and film pile is large.

I'll keep this short, but I've now watched both WOMAN IN THE DUNES and Orson Welles' final completed film THE IMMORTAL STORY. IMMORTAL STORY is rather interesting, with some distinctive Welles touches, and WOMAN IN THE DUNES is pretty amazing both cinematically and as a provocative allegory on modern life. Will need to think about that one more before posting in any more detail. Both films benefit from the context provided by the bonus articles and interviews included with Criterion's releases. Too bad there's still no Blu-ray.com review for THE IMMORTAL STORY yet.

However, instead of watching them all again I have embarked on the Pierre Etaix set. Watched the two first shorts so far - both very funny. I love visual gags based on movement. PS And, perhaps bizarrely, what sprung to mind when writing this is the very first sequence in the first Spongebob episode, a long, wordless visual gag and one that I found extremely - as in tear makingly - funny. Anyone else here a Spongebob fan? PPS How's that for proving I'm not a hipster ![]() ![]() |

C.C tend to favour classics and middlebrow fare. Nothing wrong with that, but you would have to be pretty conservative (or clueless) to think that makes it a 'snob's label'. I get why some might call Second Run an elitist/snob label, but not Criterion. Last edited by malakaheso; 12-06-2016 at 10:47 AM. |

Does anyone have a Warner Brothers wish list?
Baby Face (Stanwyck) The Roaring Twenties (Seems destined for Warner Archive) Days of Wine and Roses (Jack Lemmon is unbelievable). Wait Until Dark (Terrence Young, Audrey Hepburn). |

I want Gun Crazy, The Set-Up, The Narrow Margin, Decoy, and everything else from the Warner Film Noir Classics sets. (I figure that Warner Archive will be releasing most of these, but I'm glad that Criterion has a slice of the pie as well.) I want the rest of the Val Lewton movies, now that Criterion has released Cat People. I'm a big fan of Wait Until Dark. Last week, I saw a new 2016 movie, Don't Breathe, that puts an interesting spin on the Wait Until Dark storyline, because it concerns a group of criminals who break into the home of a blind man only to find out that the blind man is not so helpless after all. The burglars are soon trapped inside the house and are fighting for their lives. Don't Breathe isn't Criterion fare, but it's a really cool movie. Last, but not least, I want Vision Quest (1985) released on Blu-ray. |

O Lucky Man Straight Time (Dustin Hoffman's best performance IMO) Those are three I could see fitting into Criterion's catalog. There are a ton I'd love to see Warner Archive release. |
