And to MassiveMovieBuff, if you didn't like Gangs Of New York, which I did like, you may want to blame Harvey Weinstein for the changes he forced Scorsese to make. That's why it isn't as good as it should be, but I still enjoyed it. I just wish we'd see his original vision, but he's an atheist when it comes to director's cuts (New York, New York is a different situation).
Yeah I really, really wanted to love it especially since it had been so long since Scorsese had made a film. I loved Daniel Day Lewis (as always) though.

Yeah if there's one thing that frustrates the hell out of me with Scorsese is how he doesn't do director's cuts for some odd reason when many of his releases were tampered with due to petty studio and MPAA issues. Since when do studios and the MPAA have any idea about how to make a great film and what art is? He had to fight to get Wolf of Wall Street a 3 hour runtime. Could you imagine that film with 30 minutes cut out which is what the studio wanted?! Someday I hope we get the proper special edition release for that film (hopefully it's rumored 4 hour cut) that hopefully Criterion will release.

Looks like Criterion.Com is offering double loyalty points on GCs purchased before the end of the year. Stock up for the February sale!

Yep. Just went out in the email:

This begs the question: are loyalty points awarded when making purchases by gift card?

The majority of their releases come from 2K masters, so they wouldn't be true 4K and just upconverts anyway.

Some of those runners ups are incredible. Going through them (especially this one:

Does anyone know the answer to this? Do we have to use the gift card to get the loyalty points... or do will we get the points just by buying the gift card(s)?

I am pretty sure it is given when you buy the gift card only, otherwise this promo wouldn't make sense, assuming you give a gift card to someone else, you would not get any loyalty points.

To be clear.

Purchase a $50 Gift Card (100 loyalty points awarded)

Use that same $50 gift card yourself to make a purchase (50 loyalty points awarded?).

Nope, I checked my history of purchases, some of them were using a gift card I purchased for myself, and the total amount purchased corresponds to my loyalty points, so they were not awarded twice.

They are only awarded when purchasing them, when you use them the total price gets down by the amount of the gift card.

Quite tempted to buy a $250 card, it's like getting 16.6% off on top of the flash sales.

I have bought GCs as a mean to split my spending over couple of months. When I bought CC GCs, I was credited loyalty points when I bought GCs, not when I redeemed tham.

An example: let's say I bought a $25 GC on 8/1/2016 --> 25 loyalty points added.
I bought another GC on 9/1/2016 - Another 25 points added.

If I bought goods worth $60 using these $50 GCs, I will get 10 loyalty points.

Just tested whether it automatically gives me double points and bought a $25 GC to use in next flash sale. It did not give me double loyalty point...just the usual 25 points. It could be a glitch, it is possible it will be credited after a day or 7 days...but it was not immediate.

That's exactly what I was saying

I haven't tested yet, you should probably send them an email to see if this is normal (about the points not being double immediately).

Yes, I know...I only quoted you because you are the last person to respond on the topic and I wanted to warn you (and others) that point is not doubled automatically. I will probably email them sometime this week if points are not doubled by then.

Picked up a $250 gift certificate and earned another $50 loyalty certificate. I'm setting them aside until then next Criterion flash sale so I can finally own the Janus 50-film set. That thing has eluded me for far too long.

So you got the double points immediately? or you needed 250 points or less already?
