I am the opposite. I find Eyes Wide Shut nearly unwatchable. Kubrick's worst film. His only film I dislike.

Let's say Criterion announces that moving forward they will focus on releasing only new releases/acquisitions rather than upgrading more of their previous dvd releases (not a huge stretch considering their recent upgrade output). However, before they do they are going to upgrade 10 more of their in print dvd releases to bluray, and they want everyone to send their 10 votes in for which releases they'd want upgraded.

Which 10 would you choose?
Dreyer Box Set
Vampyr
The Virgin Spring
Eisenstein: The Sound Years

The Passion of Joan of Arc
The Testament of Dr. Mabuse

EWS probably my 2nd favorite after Barry Lyndon. Was blown away in 99 when I saw it at the theater upon its initial release and subsequent viewings have not changed my opinion.

Also a fan of A Serious Man, too!

Different strokes for different folks.

Out of curiosity, how many times did you view the film though?

Dekalog episode 3 might be, for me, the most perfect and beautiful Christmas film. At first glance it seems terribly depressing, but it isn't when you consider what kind of man the main character is.

As a Pole and a Catholic, I recognize Christmas as it is portrayed in the film - what it means, the importance of midnight mass, the quiet streets, family... Even the sharing of oplatki (Christmas wafer.) I think Kieslowski got it all right here. Love it!

Wow, shocked to read on my BN coupon that they are excluding BLU-RAY sale promotions from additional discount. No idea why they want to shoot themselves in the foot with his.

they want to maximize their profits even while giving discounts, and make people shop with them so the coupon doesn't go to waste. all the while, discarding slipcovers that people will pay for, laughing into the night,

Finally found a B&N with a copy of The Asphalt Jungle..
the 3rd store I had checked in Charleston....

either I'm slow or it was much more popular that B&N anticipated.

I found during the Criterion sale that it hindered any possible blind buys, or last minute pick-ups. This time around I solely stuck to my list, whereas if I were able to use the coupon I would have most likely grabbed something that I was on the fence about, but hey it's another 30 percent off so why not?

Picked up The Asphalt Jungle yesterday during the BN 40% sale. Tired to use the 30% coupon, but no joy. They are getting really specific and tight with those coupons... even though it didn't have Criterion listed this time, it did say not valid on 40% blu-ray sale.

The 20% ones via email almost always say not valid for Criterion now, starting to wonder if the $25 membership is worth it since I mostly buy during the high sales. Going to have to see if the normal 10%, plus the $25 breaks even on my purchases. Really hate they are getting so specific. I get it, they "lose" money with the stacking, but it really helps us!

I've thought about this, but mostly because I think it is pretty underrated, but it is hard for me to put it above Pahts of Glory or Clockwork Orange, so it is at 3rd for me right now, with possibility of climbing

On the other hand I just finished the Three Colors Trilogy for the third time, and I am pretty sure Red is Kieslowski best film, and one of my favorites of all time.

It's close for me between Red and La double vie de Véronique. Splitting hairs here though.

I've taken notice that any number of titles are often cited as personal favorites for Kubrick, Wes Anderson, and Charlie Chaplin. For Kubrick, I wouldn't think it odd (and I have seen) favorite lists citing probably 9 different top films.

the "where to start w/ Chaplin?" or "what's Chaplin's best?" also gets a half dozen or so different answers.

Totally forgot they released this. I got the complete Rohmer box from France a few years ago so I don't need a re-release, but funny that I forgot they even put it out.
