This has probably been asked before, but I was wondering if anyone has any idea as to when Criterion will start releasing films on 4K. I know the company started releasing blu-rays about 2-3 years after that formats introduction, so I was curious if the wait would be about that long for the upgrade to 4K

The Powell film makes some changes that I don't like particularly during the finale. The Mitchum film also makes a few changes but both are among the better Chandler adaptations. There's also The Falcon Takes Over which replaces Marlowe with the Gay Lawrence character. I watched that one on TCM this past summer and it was worth watching... once.

Okay, right, obviously age really is a factor... but... hey, look what they did to Peter Cushing ! (and the man is already dead!). With the magic of CGI, they recreated him as a real human being again... I mean, maybe they can just recreate Harrison Ford like they did with Cushing in the new Star Wars movie and make him look like he's 40 years old again!

Heck, I'll still take a geriatric Harrison Ford who can't do any more stunts over Ryan Gosling in Blade Runner any day!

You can't avoid it...you can't look away.

You stare at this photograph for over an hour, listening to this interview and slowly losing control over of your own mind as the soothing voice of Jim Jarmusch creeps into the back of your cerebral cortex like a virus.

After about 45 minutes I started to hallucinate.

I saw things that no man should see.

There's something in those eyes...those dark, shimmering pools of hipster cool.

Is it god?

...or is it the devil?

Or some mysterious force emanating from the collective unconscious of all living things?

I don't know.

I just know that I couldn't sleep last night.

I stayed up all night thinking about that face.

...that goddamn, magnificent, beautiful face.

I'm afraid that I'm going to be haunted by the face of Jim Jarmusch for the rest of my life.

[Show spoiler]
Dude, that was outright hilarious!

You're not the only one though.

I also sat there listening to the entire audio interview of Jim Jarmusch on the Down by Law supplements and had to endure staring at his face at least most of the time.

Sometimes I wonder why Criterion can't make it a bit more diverse with those long audio interviews! Why couldn't they at least change up the image a bit... even once every 10 min. having a new image come up would help. But for an entire 74 minutes having to endure THAT FACE!?

I mean, I already know Jim Jarmusch is some kind of alien from outer space, so granted, it was easier to digest.

But if there's one thing I wish for this holiday season, its future Criterion releases using a slideshow for extremely long audio interviews! WHYYYYYYYY!

That's mostly it. Ford is not a draw to most teens and 20-somethings, the biggest movie-going demographic. And they also bring in younger people to pass the torch to, if they make more films.

I love Jarmusch's films, but he's one of those guys that is funny to picture doing everyday, mundane things for some reason. To me at least. Jarmusch eating dinner. Jarmusch taking a dump. Jarmusch yelling at bad drivers in traffic. Jarmusch sitting down to watch TV. Jarmusch watching internet porn. It's the essence of Jarmusch.

Merry Christmas Homies!

To mark Criterion's recent restoration of Fellini's ROMA ... A rather interesting and insightful event was held at NYU's Casa Italiana.

... Gotta say the NYU faculty seem totally awesome! and I enjoyed watching as Becker & friends tryna market FilmStruck.

Man, I'd forgotten about him appearing in "Sling Blade". Jarmusch should have acted more. He made some small, but interesting, appearances in Alex Cox's "Straight to Hell", Kaurismaki's "Leningrad Cowboys Go America", and a good indie film called "In the Soup". The guy could have been a dual threat a la Sydney Pollack because he has an interesting screen presence. There's also a great interview he did with Charlie Rose when "Dead Man" came out where Rose is acting like a complete dipshit and the contrast between him and Jarmusch is absolutely hilarious.

The telephone conversation between Jim Jarmusch and Roberto Benigni is particularly disturbing.

There are some things in this world that cannot be unheard.

...madness.

I've been dreaming about this kind of stuff for the past two nights.

Jim Jarmusch making a tuna fish sandwich.

Jim Jarmusch watching Ghostbusters.

Jim Jarmusch buying towels at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Jim Jarmusch playing Twister with Tom Waits and Roberto Benigni.

God, if you're really up there...please make it stop.

Best Jim Jarmusch quote ever:

Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to."
