Possibly denotes time of day, so maybe sunrise?
Or maybe that it's a more rural setting (alongside trees), so maybe Sunset Song?

I don't recall if it was hinted at last year, but my money's there. It's been mentioned in the past, Davies is already in the collection, and much of the film takes place in rooms (the window clue). Plus, no bluray release yet.

I might have posted this question before but forgot to check if there was a response, but have Criterion ever revealed what these clues were meant to be? Like for years past where all the titles hinted at would already be released by now? Or do they just leave it as is for fans to perpetually try to decipher?

Nope. It'd be a nice gesture, though.

I would advise everyone to NOT order Strangelove from Amazon. The second/replacement just showed up sans booklets. The slip seems remarkably thin for what should be included. As far asa I know, Criterion does not ship "bare bones" editions. Be Careful!

It's always had thin packaging, slimmer than a plastic case.

The booklet comes in an envelope like this. This is all that should be included.

They also released Being There and Cat People on laserdisc, which is why those WB titles don't seem out of place (since WB rarely licenses out titles).

[Show spoiler]
Ok, I didn't know they were that thin and upon looking, there is a space where the booklets would fit. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up.
I emailed Criterion as well and Amazon is escalating for investigation.

Someone either slipped, or they have a batch of bootlegs. Yes, it was sold by Amazon

Can we stop with the spurious horseshit that Warners never, or rarely, license their titles? Most Recently...
Cat People
The Player
Short Cuts
Barcelona
McCabe and Mrs. Miller
The New World
The In-laws
The New Land/The Emigrants
Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
Pan's Labyrinth

And coming up...
Being There
Mildred Pierce
Blow-up
Before Sunset
Before Sunrise

And the only given is that Warners has yet to license to any company other than Criterion.

Return email with Strangelove Update:

Hello Darrel,

Thanks for writing. We've recently become aware of a number of DR
STRANGELOVE Blu-ray discs that were packaged without the inserts. We
don't have anymore at the office but hope to have them buy the end of
January. Please respond to this email with your mailing address and
I'll send you the inserts for both of your discs once they arrive.

All the best,
Jon Mulvaney

There is a tiny booklet that comes in the envelope but not shown in the above picture.

And those parallel lines on the ground almost have the appearance of a road.

Then again, not sure why the window pane would be used for Sunset Boulevard...which already has a great BD release.

Are the birds significant in any way?
Ray, surely you must be able to see something in there pointing to Le Samourai, no?

The Player was not licensed from Warner Bros. I'm guessing the Fine Line rights to the film lapsed, and the film is now owned by Avenue Entertainment, where Criterion licensed from. Also, at the beginning of the film, no Fine Line logo is seen, except for the Criterion and Janus Films logos.
