It'd be nice if this was the reason for the

You could be right about that.

I find it odd that they'd add a phantom page for a short film.

Surely they wouldn't release it as a standalone release à la A Day in the Country, right?

It's only 16 minutes, so unlikely. I assume, if it's truly getting a release, it's a supplement to another release.

Yeah in many ways he was the bottomed-out version of Roger Wade. Without the writer's block though

As a companion piece, yes. But it is nothing compared to Scorsese's brilliant masterpiece.

Filmstruck doesn't work on my iPad mini unfortunately. It worked okay during the beta, but after a little back and forth with Filmstruck, it appears they don't support my older generation model. The device is obviously plenty capable of running the service, so it's all up to their programmers to allow it to play nice on it. Right now, their lack of support is the main thing hurting them in my opinon. That's one area that Hulu got completely right. It was on everything.

Not CC related but possibly of interest to many here - Deep Discount DVD is offering 15 % off right now. Their Warner Archive titles are the lowest anywhere. A lot of good stuff to choose from with WA, but here's a recommendation: the 4 Bogart / Bacall movies for about 46.50 plus tax, if applicable.

Yeah, I'm still waiting for Chromecast support. I was a beta tester as well and got the 3 free months (or however much it was) and only watched one thing via connecting my laptop to the TV via HDMI... where the results weren't pretty. They definitely need to work on support for more things. I'm still using a PS3 as well, which also will not be supported.

This would be amazing! Such a great movie that is strangely underrated. As far as I know Criterion no longer owns the rights to Dead Presidents unfortunately.

Dead Presidents = Hollywood Pictures = Disney

So, that would be a no as far as Criterion releasing a Blu-ray.

Times change from Laserdisc days to Blu-ray disc. Different deals and agreements can't be remade it seems. But there are always those who make custom LD-to-DVD or LD-to-BD releases.

Anyway, I'd certainly but eventually buy CC BD's of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, The Princess Bride, Jason and The Argonauts including others which could possibly be from LD to BD theirselves.
Yeah. It's sad. I was so stoked when blu ray first came out due to the fact we have the definitive home media service for films (still am stoked obviously) but who would've known there would've been so many issues and pitfalls to come up with streaming and instant video services trying to take over, studios referring to how well the titles sold on dvd to determine whether they care enough to release it on blu ray, dvd still being made available when blu ray exists and studios losing the rights to the films. I ended up buying Dead Presidents on Amazon instant video due to not knowing if it will ever get a blu ray release unfortunately. Here's hoping that all of the movies we love will end up on quality blu rays eventually.

The worst part actually is when they take fantastic new films like The Handmaiden and Christine and put them out on streaming and DVD but not bluray. Like wtf? Why are companies still even making DVDs?

Exactly. It baffles me. I've been in line at redboxes and in stores to rent or buy some blu rays and the people in front of me got mad because the redbox only featured the blu ray and not the dvd! Huh?! Also the people in front of me in line were asking about if they had a movie available to buy but made it very clear that they wanted the dvd and not the blu ray.

Especially when it's a movie that clearly took extra care on its visuals. Artificial Eye just released Notes on Blindness, a gorgeous movie about a man going blind, and it's only on DVD. I get that it's niche, but wouldn't that niche be more likely to buy it on Blu-ray? [emoji36]

Because they still hold 60% of the physical media market all these years later. So your question should be more like "Why are people still buying DVDs?"
