Oh yes, it's a masterful film. The most successful war film I've ever seen, I think, hence my reaction.

Definitely stream it before considering a purchase. You'll either find it powerful or mind numbingly dull (as I did).

Maybe this can pave the way for future Waters releases?

DIRECTOR-APPROVED EDITION:

New 4K digital restoration, supervised by director John Waters, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray
New audio commentary featuring Waters
New interviews with cast and crew members Pat Moran, Mink Stole, Susan Lowe, George Figgs, and Vincent Peranio
New video essay by scholar Gary Needham
Trailer
PLUS: An essay by critic Linda Yablonsky
New cover by Eric Skillman
I asked Waters last month if any more of his flicks would be coming to Blu in 2017, and he said that he "wasn't allowed to say". The way it was worded struck me that there is probably one in the works, but it could also be nothing. My guesses at most likely would be Polyester from Criterion (as some have speculated from the New Year's drawing) or Serial Mom from Scream Factory.

It's not very disturbing. It was infamous for causing people to head for the exits, but from what I've heard, the part that chased away the most people was by far the least "twisted" sex scene - the one between the two men! 1996 was a VERY different time. The only thing I could see really offending people that aren't sex negative is the leg scar one. If you hate sex scenes in movies or just want to see hot boobies, this is most definitely not for you.

The "repeat entertainment value" might not be very high, it's very icy. I've only seen it twice in 15 years.

I'm busy at the moment, but does anyone know if FilmStruck has expanded their services recently?

The last time I checked my Samsung SmartTV (a month or so ago), there was no app available.

I don't believe so. Last I read, they will be on Roku sometime this quarter.

I'm all in for either one! I've been contemplating importing Serial Mom, but I just feel like a solid US release is just around the corner.

I was hoping that one or two of his early shorts would show up on Multiple Maniacs. I know The Diane Linkletter Story can be found on YouTube but the quality is pretty terrible

FYI, the annual Turner Classic Film Festival is around the corner in April.

Here is the film list so far:

http://filmfestival.tcm.com/programs/http://filmfestival.tcm.com/programs/

Typically, any film with a "premiere" or "anniversary" restoration has a good chance of an upcoming Blu release, potentially from Criterion.

Apparently it's on Filmstruck https://watch.filmstruck.com/#!/detail/1300004157. There's also a blank page on the Criterion's website with Elem Klimov's name. https://www.criterion.com/people/123751-elem-klimov

Maybe it means something, it would be great. It's a pity Criterion BD's are Region A locked
Holy mother of shit.

Here's hoping that FNF print of The Underworld Story shows up somewhere...

It's a Federal holiday. I don't think that Criterion is considered a Federal agency.

Yeah, so lets have some announcements. And hopefully we get some dvd upgrades for a change. I really miss having 1 or 2 of those a month.

I guess that it's not for me, then.

I still want to see it anyway, because the sheer amount of cautious accolades about it have me intrigued.

Believe me, they'll do anything to postpone their announcements.

There aren't hot boobies in Come and See... or sex scenes.

Crash isn't the same movie.
