I lied. Rebecca and Notorious were on both LD and DVD, but Spellbound was only released by Criterion on DVD.

It's a federal holiday, but state governments tend to observe it, as do banks and schools. Private companies can choose to either observe it or not.

Let me be honest here:

I just got back from the theater having seen Silence.

I am stumped.

I am absolutely stumped and stunned.

I am not sure whether to apologize to my friends for dragging them to see this film or not.

I am not sure whether I need to confess my sins to my brothers for forcing them to watch what I just watched or not.

I am not sure if this experience I just endured was a positive or negative one.

I really do not know if this film was a complete masterpiece or a complete misfire.

What I do know, is that I just watched Silence, the new Martin Scorsese movie, and I had huge expectations. And now I am attempting to digest this film as best as I can. This is not easy at the moment. But I can say I just saw this film finally and I am truly at a loss for words. I have been silenced.

Here goes my coin in the wishing well...

Dear Janus God,

I'm pretty mad at you for ignoring Josef von Sternberg.

Why on earth are his Criterion titles not on Blu-ray yet?!

JVS films should've been released first thing alongside the Bergmans and Fellinis.

2017's year of the Rooster, so please don't take it as a sign to chicken out again; get back in that lab and make the magic happen!

I thought Silence was excellent but not enjoyable. If that makes any sense.

I don't regret seeing but I won't put it high on my list of favorite Scorsese movies. In that it's a bit like Kundun.

Well, Shanghai Express DID just get a new restoration from Universal, and do we REALLY think they'll be interested in doing anything with that themselves?
I dont think so!

To those talking about Perfect Blue, it has several Region B releases.

And at this point you might as well get a Region free player as there are a bunch of films that will never get a Region A release.

You know, I was laying in bed last night and thought to myself, "I bet BItWC will finally get that Special Edition this month."

My two most wanted upgrades for what seems like forever are/were Hiroshima Mon Amour and Pandora's Box. The former came out last year - now I anxiously await the latter. More Louise Brooks please!

Buck Jr.,

I doubt it would end up with Criterion.

Kino or Flicker Alley would probably snatch it before the sunrise.

... Mulvaneys need to step up their A-Game!

I did some investigation of this the other day. The only news I found on the title were blogs with dvd reviews. I searched for news of a 4K restoration and found zip, zero, zilch.

Could be a disappointing announcement day for some.
