What's the deal with Osbourne these days? Does he not do TCM intros at all anymore?

I really don't think 1 upgrade a month is too much to ask.
Not to mention they recently added Shame to their catalog, also those 2 and all 3 from his Faith Trilogy are also in excellent shape based on their streaming versions.

I guess for those older releases it is a matter of finding supplements since some of them were pretty bare-bones.

I'm good for Rumble Fish and possibly Woman of the Year, but I'm going to pass on all of the other titles for April. At least for now. Those two titles can even wait for the next sale, in fact.

Although I'm tempted to grab individual copies of the Demy releases, just to avoid that godawful fragile box set on my shelf.

Rumble Fish has grown on me with each watch... it has gone from "pretty good" to one of my favorites over the years. And I agree that Drugstore Cowboy would be a fantastic addition.

Don't worry, I'm sticking with the box set. A Blu-ray in the hand is worth two in the bush.

I wonder if the success of La La Land has prompted the individual releases of these Demy movies.

Of course, I guess that I'll have a better handle on that when I actually kinda sorta get around to watching my Demy set.

I was actually a bit disappointed in His Girl Friday, PQ-wise. Not that it's bad; it's an improvement over previous versions I've seen. It's just that I was expecting more.

He was having health problems and, even though the specifics weren't disclosed, it was enough to keep him from attending the last two TCM Film Festivals. He's 84 so it's not unexpected but still-he was the face of TCM since it's introduction many years ago and a very knowledgeable guy. It's funny to see him in his acting days such as the first episode of The Beverly Hillbillies. Lucille Ball gave him great advice-"Give up acting, try writing" and that opened many doors for him and ended up with his job at TCM.

Yeah, I remember after I graduated high school I spent a lost summer basically watching TCM all day, and Osbourne was this familiar face throughout all of that. When I first started watching classic movies in 2004 (I was about 14/15), I used to enjoy the intros and outros for the SILENT SUNDAY NIGHTS I would watch (and be super tired at school the next day because they started at midnight).

It would be a real shame to lose all of that.

It's what they said in the press release but he really just wanted a break for a while. I talked to a couple of folks who know some of his neighbors when I was attending TCM, supposedly he's in good health but just doesn't have as much energy to do TCM all the time and wanted to take some time off.
Hopefully it won't been TOO long to get him back.

A relative of mine does sound work and summer before last one of his gigs was Osbournes TCM intros. I was super super jealous.

Haha nice! My friends Stefanie and Glenn were two of the fan hosts when they did that whole thing a couple years back. Not sure what Glenn chose but I know Stefanie picked Waterloo Bridge as her choice.

No, I didn't mention it in my post. But I've mentioned on numerous occasions that I started collecting Criterions back in the LD days.

I have some random LDs in my collection listed at LDDB, but most of my LDs are in a storage locker, and I've wanted to seriously update my collection list before adding them to my collection at LDDB.

What I can tell you right now is that I have 249 Criterion LDs, plus 4 out of the 5 Criterion Television LDs, plus all 3 of the Rolling Thunder LDs. Plus 9 of the non-Criterion Voyager LDs.

That depends. I think it has one of Hepburn's best performances, and the chemistry between the two is, as usual, excellent. My objection to it is only because of the way the plot resolves. Other than that, I can't really say anything wrong about it.

I've seen all nine of their pairings, and Woman of the Year I find the least enjoyable to watch. The only other one in similar straits is Capra's State of the Union, because I find it preposterous that Spencer Tracy would cheat on Katherine Hepburn with Angela Lansbury. But that's me.

Adam's Rib is definitely my favorite, with one of my favorite movie quotes: David Wayne's "Lawyers should never marry other lawyers. This is known as in-breeding, which leads to idiot children and more lawyers." My second favorite of their pairings would be a toss up between Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and Desk Set.

That would be good news. To keep this Criterion related-I saw In the Mood For Love last week on TCM Imports. First time seeing it. It kept me guessing with the "will they?" "won't they?"
[Show spoiler]get together
question until the very end. And....in any language, nobody sings like Nat King Cole.

A slow month is alright for me (aside from lack of upgrades). There' at least 20 titles I'm still behind on purchasing. Gives me a chance to catch up. And I'm still over the moon about 'His Girl Friday'. I can't applaud CC enough for that one.
