That is what I had heard and must admit Im really not a fan of graphic rape but I figured in the 60s how bad could it be.

Oddly enough obscene violence is a breeze for me but graphic rape is just I dont know...

If only they could also wrestle Kundun from Disney, they could release The Last Temptation of Christ, Kundun and Silence as a box set as The Scorsese Trilogy of Faith.

Ridley Scott would probably be Thelma & Louise.

You could be right about that. I've accepted Criterion eschewing upgrades in favor of releasing Warner catalog titles, but if they continue their 0-for-2017 upgrade record so they can release films that already have a domestic blu ray release, well, that would kinda chap my butt.

Oh, the reason I went to see the double bill in the first place was because A THOUSAND CLOWNS was on it. TAKING OFF could have been literally any movie. I love CLOWNS so much. Saw it on TCM years back and have been enamored with it ever since. Robards is terrific in it. I do think it tapers off a bit in the second hour, but that major scene in the first hour in the apartment is so well acted and written its astounding.

I was bummed with the other poster asked Mister Lime about it coming out and him saying it doesn't have an HD master. That's really surprising, especially considering that this was an Oscar player at the time and did win for Martin Balsam. Hopefully someday it shows up somewhere. I'd love to own it.

I saw They Live By Night at the local rep tonight, which regularly gets prints from Janus, and was surprised when the introducer said they had to import this particular one from the BFI! In other words, Warner gave them permission to screen it, but didn't have a print they could lend out (or didn't have one in good enough condition—it wasn't clear). I wonder if that means Janus has the elements Warner would've lent to prep their edition?

Janus Films tweeting about Taipei Story today. That's got to be a not if, but when, in relation to it coming to CC, right?

Was watching a bit of This Sporting Life last night and I thought, "You know what I would like to be CC'd from the Warner library? O Lucky Man!"

Even just to have the movie unbroken and on one disc would be great.

Depends on the context.

The tweet's embedded link didn't mention a distribution by Janus Films did it?

I've noticed that pretty much all CC Godard (except Masculin Feminin & Made in the USA) are OOP, so perhaps my dreams of Godard upgrades are dashed. In that case how about upgrades of Seijun Suzuki?

Nah, it doesn't. But that venue never includes where they get the print from on their website. This is why I like when another nearby repertory theater gets things. They put it right on their literature: "A JANUS FILMS PRESENTATION".

I do think it'll be released by Criterion, though.

If that's the case it will more than likely be coming.

Odds are you're probably right on that, but I've still got some hope that it's Black Hawk Down, with all the extras ported over from the 3-disc Special Edition DVD.

"O Lucky Man!" is an absolutely fantastic film. Criterion or Warner Archive need to put it out as soon as possible.

It aired once on a local TV station here many years back, but there was a brief blackout during the film and I missed a good hour of the 3+hour movie. Was gonna buy the DVD, but hesitated because they split the film up onto 2 DVD discs. Felt like I could wait for a better release.
