He seemed to have a very artistic mind so I could have easily seen him earning praise as a director while maybe making the occasional foray into acting to pay the bills.

Or a guy like James Dean. I'm sure he would have lived the hippie lifestyle big time if he had survived into the late 60s.
I mentioned physicality because Bruce Lee depended so much on it in his performances. It's not unlike what we're hearing now about Jackie Chan, who many critics now criticize for being "washed up" and "old".

Personally I think Bruce would have just disappeared from the limelight after his heyday.

I think Hollywood would have gotten the best of him, and he'd balloon out to 300 lbs, and go on cocaine benders. Yes, hard to imagine, but it's the life I tells ya.

While we're talking about Legends.

Apparently, Godard is still alive and well.

... Isn't that mind boggling?

It will be Andy Taylor, guarantee it. But don't worry. He always comes back.

Picked up a once-viewed, immaculate copy of the 4k restoration of Howard's End by Cohen Media Group for $13, and wow, I am super impressed. If this is indicative of their overall quality, I'll be buying more from them. The picture quality is stunning. The packaging is exquisite, too.

I'm usually very happy with the Cohen films I buy. The last few I've seen were the three Pialat releases and the Benoit Jacquot. The latter is one worth getting solely for A Single Girl. It's a masterful film I wish more people would see.

Silly question, but I was watching A New World and was wondering. Is this the first New Line Cinema film in the collection?

Cohen is a label with a lot of terrific releases. I have 28 of their releases, and no complaints about any of them...

...well, except for one, and that's Howards End. The PQ on the disc is excellent, but the aspect ratio is wrong. It should be 2.35:1, like the Criterion, but somehow it ended up at 2.50:1.

Maybe. If you're only talking BD/DVD.

On laserdisc, they did a few, including Se7en and Boogie Nights.

I was thinking of picking up His Girl Friday and in that regard I tried the Lux Radio Theater adaptation with Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert playing the Grant and Russell parts. It's snappily written and decent fun but
[Show spoiler]I had an icky feeling about a complete scumbag like Walter Burns having the happy ending. Not that Hildy would have been happy to be settled down with the conventional insurance salesman and his mother, but she's fiesty rather than downright amoral and avaricious like Walter is.
I couldn't be satisfied with that sort of an upbeat end. Probably cutting this off my wishlist

If you're into classic Hollywood "hidden" histories, you have got to check out the You Must Remember this podcast. It's in a class of its own. Host, Karina Longworth covers all the juicy stories from Liz and Monty to Bruce and Brandon.

It's one of the only podcasts I've listened to that makes me want to donate. I'll no doubt buy her book soon.
