You're not crazy, you just have terrible tastes. You should sell me your entire Criterion Collection for $50 and we'll never mention it again.

Filmstruck is playing THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH with the C attached to it. The Scream Factory Vincent Price set that included this film is now OOP. . . I wonder if they'll be a Criterion edition of the film down the road? I seems unneeded, but possible perhaps?

Interesting. Watched DEATH RACE 2000 last week, nice to see some great Corman flicks on Criterion.

How's $5,000 sound? I don't like being low balled.

So I really prefer the DVD, I went with the flow about buying Criterion Blurays and now I'm paying the price of not enjoying foreign movies due to these unreadable white and hard to follow subtitles.
Anyone would like to comment on this flaw please to give me comfort
I was thinking the other day that the subtitles on 8 1/2 might have been a bit hard to read here and there, in the back of my mind was that maybe there is something to at least some of them being difficult to read at times. (I've seen this complaint before.) But on the other hand I've watched other of their b&w films and not had a problem. And same for all the color ones I've gotten around to.

On the other other hand, I had problems getting a decent prescription for my glasses last year, so I'm still using the previous (really great) one from a few years back. It's starting to show its age though... (I predict I will be going to a new eye doctor this year, and do need to look into just how soon I can do that. Thanks for the reminder.)

So maybe a trip to the eye doctor would be worth pursuing?

Is it OOP or is the price just really high now?
The big box doesn't seem to be OOP, but it is limited and has been out a while. Check the different amazons, it may be cheaper through one that is not France. (Italy has it cheaper, for example.)

I have one more blu-ray to watch from mine (Autumn Tale) and then his last few films after that are dvd only. The end is near...

Thanks! I'll definitely keep shopping around. I can't let Four Adventures slip past me.

---

I recently sat down to watch Black Girl and while feeling sometimes a bit too slight and arch in the moment, by the time that coda hit I was left speechless. The film came into clearer focus. Not thematically as this is the opposite of an opaque work, but in terms of form. I was initially perplexed by the lack of detail and characterization. Very little is made clear of what wages and conditions were promised to Diouana to go to France and be a maid for example. But that ending makes it clear it follows an emotional binary logic (if that makes sense. Black and white. Life and death. Hope and Despair.

Im very intrigued to see more of Sèmbene's work now. I believe Jon Rosenbam hailed Brightness as the greatest African film he had ever seen. The only issue now is finding a way to see it. :/

I saw Elle yesterday and I have to say, I didn't expect it to be so good. It's a beautiful, utterly-disturbing and funny film. Isabelle Huppert is magnificent and she is my top choice to win the Oscar. I hope Criterion will get the rights down the line because the SPC edition looks almost-barebones.

It is indeed a fantastic film and I wouldn't be upset if she won either her or Portman.

Elle was my favorite film of last year, so I wouldn't mind this one bit. I would, however, prefer they concentrate on bringing his early films to bluray. The only one available is Spetters and you'd have to import that from Germany (which I did a week ago). Turkish Delight is an all time favorite film for me and I suspect it'll garner legions of fans should it make its way to the Collection. That movie is criminally underseen.

I concur. I have the Anchor Bay DVD set of his early works and they deserve (non crappy) blu ray releases. Excellent set of work and very interesting companion piece to what he would do in Hollywood later.

I found Elle to be ok, nothing terribly special, its enjoyable though, I don't get the oscar hype for Huppert as well? There are much better performances out there, she was good no doubt and I loved watching her but hardly 'Oscar worthy'...

Natalie Portman was a lot better!

Lucky you! That set is worth a pretty penny today.

A serviceable bluray upgrade would immediately be a release of the year candidate.
