My biggest issue with La La Land was the sound design. The music kept overpowering the voices, also I didn't think the two leads voices were strong, and gave me Russell Crowe in Les Miserables flash backs.

IMHO - one of the weakness for the movie version of Les Mis was the song live on-stage with just a piano in their earpiece. The vocals were mixed with the score later on. You could tell the professional trainers signers vs the just signing for this movie type.

Ahhh this thread is being soiled with La La Land hate.

I recently rewatched Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down! Thank god for Criterion because sadly there is no other way this movie receives such an amazing release. Incredible picture quality, and loved all the interviews with Almodóvar and Banderas. Would love to see All About My Mother and Talk to Me become Criterion titles this year.

Those two are bound to become Criterion if they indeed got the rights to everything.

I recently did an Almodovar Marathon except for his last film, aside from those 2 you mention and the ones already released I don't really know if there is another worthy title out there.

The Skin I Live in and Volver already have good releases, although more supplements wouldn't hurt.

Perhaps Live Flesh would be my next choice after all those.

La La Land:

A buddy of mine literally walked out of the theater within the first 3 minutes of the movie.

Another friend of mine nearly walked out after 5 minutes of getting through that extravagant opening dance scene.

Fortunately, not only did I give the film a chance, I actually quite enjoyed La La Land and I think its one of the best musicals I've seen in the last 10 years.

I simply do not respect people who don't have the patience to sit through an opening sequence of a movie. They either have ADHD or are completely ignorant to cinema.

Ive asked out of a film 30 seconds into the film.... turned out the cinema gave me tickets to the wrong film :P

But yeah I never understood people that walk out of films they have paid for... just give the film a chance.

I agree. I would never walk out on a film. Two weeks ago I came close though. I was watching Neruda and half an hour into the movie I became incredibly tired. Instead of walking out and going home though I just decided to take a nap.

One of my most memorable movie experiences was Speed Racer. I was in full hate mode the first quarter of an hour, but I stuck with it and at the end of the movie I was yelling "Go Speed Racer, Go!". Now I love it.

There are starving children in China who do not get to watch movies, so you'd better finish your movie!

I walked out of Black Sheep. That's the only one. In my defense Gene Siskel also walked out ( of a different screening ).

My friend walked out of The Crying Game when
[Show spoiler]the guy's dick came out.
Just took off and left me there without even saying anything. It was ok because it was in college and I lived right across the street, but he never paid me back for the ticket!

So you like The Skin I Live In better than Bad Education? I enjoyed them both but definitely prefer the latter.

I was going to say that Black Sheep wasn't that bad, but then I realized I was thinking of Tommy Boy, which at least has some redeeming qualities. Black Sheep is pretty disappointing and unfunny in comparison.

I knew there was some kind of
[Show spoiler]twist
, but not what it was, so that didn't phase me - and I was actually pretty young when I saw it (maybe 12-13).

I know it's weird but I never liked that film, I watched it when it came out, and on my recent watch I appreciated it a bit more but still not a fan.

For me the best part of it is the opening credits, but it kind of prepares you for a totally different movie than it is.

Yeah, Black Sheep was substantially worse than Tommy Boy. There comes a point where it feels like they're just phoning it in. I felt the same way about Joe Dirt 2 ( what little I saw of it, anyway ).
