I simply do not respect people who don't have the patience to sit through an opening sequence of a movie. They either have ADHD or are completely ignorant to cinema.
I can't imagine sitting through a musical featuring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone.

Just took off and left me there without even saying anything. It was ok because it was in college and I lived right across the street, but he never paid me back for the ticket!
It's amazing how they tried to make the same movie all over again withe the same two guys, but every gag in Black Sheep failed.

It's shocking how unfunny they made those guys with such aa similar setup.

Have you ever seen a movie at a theater and really enjoyed it and then a few years later you rent it or buy it and think to yourself "WTF was I thinking? This movie really sucks". Yeah, mark my words, thats going to happen a lot with La La Land. Its a stale, average, cheesy movie that was nominated for an embarrassingly large amount of nominations for one reason and one reason only. It was made in L.A. The academy sucks, the oscars suck, the people who go to the oscars suck, the presenters all suck and they can all f**k off. Maybe somebody can make a thread about how many thousands of times the Oscars got it wrong in their short history. They ignore classic, great movies (http://www.indiewire.com/2016/02/osc...icture-266034/) that don't fall in line with their agendas or documentaries (Open Secret) that reveal the sick f**s who attend these shows or the scum that give standing ovations (Meryl Streep) to pedophiles who drug 13 year old girls with quaaludes and then rape them and then flee from justice (Roman Polanski).

Meryl Streep is "scum that gives standing ovations"? This guy's losing it!!! Is his avatar John Wayne with a Devo hat? I didn't think either of them were known for flipping tables.

The original is far better. I'm not sure what people see in the remake that even approaches the original.

According to your profile, you've been a member since November. So either you're a noob or a banned member back under a new account. Either way, you need to tone it down because between this post and another one I just replied to another thread, you're coming across like you're typing your posts by banging your fists on the keyboard and that just doesn't fly.

I have a soft spot for Black Sheep, but it's nowhere near as funny as Tommy Boy.

The tragedy of all of this is that Tommy Boy has a disappointing Blu-ray presentation that is only a negligible improvement over the DVD, but Black Sheep looks fantastic on Blu-ray and benefits from a near-flawless high definition presentation.

I am on the same boat on that one, although I probably need to rewatch most of their oldest stuff again since I watched to so man years ago.

I do enjoy some of their comedies, but for some reason I couldn't get into that one.

I think that with the benefit of hindsight and also considering how the reputations of certain films seem to evolve over the years, its easy to say such and such film was overlooked. There are certain types of films that always seem to garner attention from the Oscars. It is nice to see a favorite film get honored, but being that we know what the Oscars are, I'm not sure why some get so worked up about it.

The remake is entertaining, but it's so...it's so...Coen Brothers. It's almost like Coen Brothers on steroids.

I always wince a bit when I'm reading a movie list of top westerns, and I see the Coen Brothers remake listed over the original film.

Of course, there are several John Wayne roles that I vastly prefer over his role in True Grit, but the original film is still the winner in my book.
I'm not a big fan of the remake.

The Coens didn't change enough to make it worthwhile. The banter between the charactefs just isn't as good. The scenes between Darbyand Strother Martin are great. Those scenes fall flat in the remake.

Black Sheep sucks compared to Tommy Boy. But compared to Farley's only other starring roles -- Beverly Hills Ninja and Almost Heroes -- it's a masterpiece. And since there is sadly not much Farley to go around, I don't mind giving Black Sheep a watch now and then.

It's worth noting as well that the popularity of certain movies reflects the political and socioeconomic climates of any given era.

A couple of months ago, I watched the 1942 film, Holiday Inn. In overall terms, I absolutely loved the movie, but I was also taken aback by one particular scene where the characters performed in blackface. I had to remind myself that, when this movie was filmed, this sort of thing was probably not offensive to the masses, and, in fact, it was probably quite innocuous.

On the flipside, though, the Criterion films, The Big Chill and Tootsie, seem sort of quaint to me now, although I still find them entertaining for nostalgia's sake. Back in the day, they made waves in popular culture, but their effect is somewhat diminished now.

Most people today would probably watch Design for Living (1933) and wonder what the big deal is with that movie.

On a closer-to-home note, I'd be willing to bet that younger people who visit this forum get the impression that John Carpenter's The Thing was a much more popular movie than E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial was back in 1982, while it was actually the other way around back then.

I done the same with Bringing Up Baby, twice now. Maybe some day I'll finish it, but just wasn't feeling it by half-time. (Angels I was fine with.)

You got me wondering about His Girl Friday now, another one I've yet to see...
