Fun fact as I'm rewatching Seven Samurai for the first time in years.
In the first hour of the film, Kikuchiyo presents a family tree to Shimada and his birthday is listed as February 17, 1574. And today just so happens to be February 17. What a coincidence! |

It would be extra crazy if it was also 1574.

Didn't Criterion mention a while ago that had planned 4k remasters of Tom Jones and Midnight Cowboy from MGM? Any further bits?

Midnight Cowboy was a rumor which turned out to be false. I believe there was a Tom Jones rumor, as well, but I don't know what became of it.

If the rumors of a 4K re-release of Chungking Express are true, I hope this is the image used for the cover art.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, but Godard's 1955 once-lost film Une Femme Coquette is now available on YouTube.

I was also afraid that was the case. I mean, the first set was 3½ years ago! It's not like there weren't enough restorations in the can for a second volume long before this.

What? a whole day without any comment here, that has to be the first time in a long.
Anyway I catched up with the following: His Girl Friday: The plot is very fresh in my mind, it's my second watch and also saw The Front Page with Jack Lemon, unfortunately I didn't find anything groundbreaking and my opinion stands on this, good not great, BTW this has to have a record of more words spoken per minute right? also it blows my mind that not only [Show spoiler] .The Asphalt Jungle: Film-Noir is hit or miss with me although this feels more like straight out Heist film, I know this is probably influential but didn't find it did things particularly better than other Heist films like Rififi or The Killing, still good movie. Punch-Drunk Love: Watched this right after La La Land, it was a great choice, this love story feels kind of magical, the score is amazing, I have seen this before but Anderson works always holds up repeated viewings for me, although to tell the truth I didn't remember absolutely anything about this one, was like watching for the first time. Non Criterion: Manchester by The Sea: A great and very restrained piece of drama, not quite the masterpiece Margaret was for me, but I am sure 99% of people disagree. La La Land: Talk about disappointment, it is the Boyhood of the year for me and I love musicals ![]() |

The Lady Vanishes will not play on a Sony BDP S3700. The Criterion "C" appears in the top left corner but the main menu fails to load (I gave it 10 minutes but the screen remained black). The disk has no bronzing, is scratch-free and will play on a PS3 (At least prior to my console biting the dust).
