was home sick today and embarked on the 4 hour adventure that is A Brighter Summer Day. I thought it was fantastic. The pacing is challenging for the first hour or so - I think others have mentioned that on this thread before, but it rewards those willing to stick with it.

I really, really like Yi Yi, but I'm inclined to say that this was better, which I don't believe is the popular opinion around here. The plot, although layered and detailed to a point that made it kind of difficult to keep track of who is who, is tighter here than in Yi Yi.

I also recall somebody saying something about the photography, shot composition or something like that, too.. I thought that what Yang did with the camera here and w/ a lot of the night time photography looked pretty incredible.

Loved it!

I was fortunate to see this at the Uptown theater, which I believe was D.C.'s biggest screen back then. It was a great experience.

I saw so many fantastic classics there. I miss that so much. Oh well.
There was a duplex theater that was located across the street from where my wife and I worked. It was called the Inner Circle/Outer Circle. It was a repertory theater that had some great double features like Badlands/Days of Heaven or Love and Death/Bananas for example. We saw lots of films there. One day we came out to get lunch and the theaters were just a pile of rubble next to a bulldozer! It later became a parking lot. Joni Mitchell was right!

Anyone else find it strange that Scorsese WCP is a dual format release? Are dual format releases coming back from Criterion, or are they just doing it with this release to keep in line with the first?

I'm not complaining. This WCP looks even better than the first.

That story breaks my heart.

They turned my theater into an office building.

This would surely be their top seller at 50% off so I would be surprised if that's not the plan.
It doesn't need to be the 28th to be included, just whenever the Trilogy is in stock, which could be a few days or even a week before the technical release date.

I'm so glad I took advantage of Amazon's pricing error and I'm getting The Before Trilogy at 50% off on release date. I think it's the first time I'm buying a Criterion film on release date as I usually wait for the B&N sales on July and November.

Thanks to the Amazon price error on the Before trilogy, this inevitable flash sale will probably be my smallest and least costing yet! I've only got His Girl Friday, Asphalt Jungle and Mildred Pierce in my cart. I'd get one more (and probably will in the adrenaline rush!) but I think that's good enough.

Money is burning a hole in my wallet.

I was set for a big flash sale until Target's sale last week. Now I only have 4 titles to buy.

Ditto. That Target sale really helped out with the February & April releases. I just need to snag Something Wild (61), His Girl Friday, & Exterminating Angel (as I never picked up the DVD release) from the upcoming flash sale.

Well I guess next Tuesday looks like the best possibility. These 2 criterion birthday giftcards are burning a hole in my pocket!

Can't rule out tomorrow or Thursday, or even next Monday. Just have to be prepared or else one will miss out big time.

Let The Tree of Life hype train begin. The rumor did say "Summer months". The next announcement is for June.

One can dream!

However, it already has a top-notch blu-ray release.

Didn't that same info dump say were we're getting a collection of Lana del Rey music videos?

(Looking back there have been multiple confirmations of TOL)

Different source, pretty sure the recent rumours are more solid...

I'll take Control (since it never got a US blu release) with a couple extra discs of Anton Corbijn's music videos.
