I ask because how likely will RAN ever be released again under Criterion?

The most important aspect to these movies I believe is the commentary (especially for historical perspective with an unfamiliar culture) This was very important to my experience on Sanjuro / Yojimbo / Seven Samurai.

I want to pick up the blu-ray but it does not contain that essential commentary. Should I hold out and hope?
It doesn't happen often, but out of print titles have resurfaced in the collection. Salo was out of print for years and Charade went out of print for a while around the time they made that remake. It could happen but I wouldn't count on it.

This question is in regard to ordering from Amazon. I've ordered a lot of stuff there in ther past, but these items were usually already released. Now I have this and next month's Criterion releases on order, in addition to a few others: Seven, Psycho, American Beauty, and The Maltese Falcon.

Does Amazon wait until the last item is released before shipping everything at once? Or do they ship as they are released? I'd hate to wait til early November to get this week's Breathless and next week's Charade!

Thanks!

Doesn't Amazon have the options at checkout of "ship as items become available" or "ship in as little shipment as possible"?

I have purchased books from Amazon.com many times over the years, and generally my experience has been very positive. (I live in Canada.) Most recently, I ordered several books, including one that hadn't been published yet. They sent me the ones that were available and then separately sent the final book upon being published. I'm not sure if I had to specifically request that on the order page.

I have the region free UK Psycho import which is the same as the upcoming US release. You will be very pleased.

I recently read a review of a different release of Psycho...it is probably the one you mentioned. I was pleased to hear how good it was, and I definitely can't wait!

I only hope Warner puts as much of an effort into the Bogart films as they are to their other classics. Maltese Falcon and Sierra Madre seem like budget releases, so I am a little worried. I think Maltese was only $17.99 on Amazon.

Anyone know if the audio specs have been listed for The Maltese Falcon anywhere?

Warner better not botch those Huston pictures. The pricing is perhaps more indicative of a competitive pricing among studios. Universal had priced Pyscho at $18.99.

I believe that Salo was an exception because the rights holder was the estate of Pasolini and not some studio. And for the longest time the wife or children wouldnt give the rights back to Criterion.

But after so much demand Criterion prolly just pushed a wheelbarrel full of cash to their house with a contract on top.

But given the current economy and blu-ray still being a niche product, a lot of companies are more then likely more open to talks with Criterion about licenseing out titles. For instance Paths of Glory, and old LD that is now being offered again. And the Hollywood box set.

So I feel that we may start seeing Criterion get back some old LD titles that didnt make it to DVD.

As far as the SC titles that are being lost.....the only thing I can imagine happening is if in like 2 years of so SC is not turing a profit on their blus, they may consider re-license them back to criterion and just take the money.

SC thinks that since Criterion is doing well they can do well also. But Criterion has a built in fanbase that SC lacks, and from their output so far of titles, I would much rather own the Criterion DVD over their Blu.

Wow! That's not even close. The Blu-ray absolutely destroys the old Fox DVD. I'm curious to see what the Criterion DVD looks like however. I'll bet it holds up better in comparison.

I hope Criterion has more plans for Abbas Kiarostami in the near future.

They ship the items as they become available. I've probably placed over a hundred orders over the years and it's always been the case.

I am having shipping problems everywhere it seems.

Criterion always ships my stuff with UPS. Not this time. USPS. Shipped last week, and by my past orders, it should of came today. But not worried about this one. Will most likely be here tomorrow.
