Three for me this go around! Snagged His Girl Friday, Mildred Pierce and Bitter Rice.
Glad Criterion has been so well stocked these last couple flash sales!

I'm so stoked I just ordered:

Harakiri
A New World
Punch Drunk Love
The Before Trilogy
Guillermo del Toro Trilogy
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I just realized I would have saved a few bucks if I ordered Guillermo Trilogy from Amazon, can I cancel that item? Would be nice to save the $4.50. Also, I thought I just read somewhere that the Before Trilogy was on sale for $40 recently?

State sales tax from Amazon would eat most if not all of that $4.50.

Well, I just couldn't hold back and I ended up ordering three more, making six.

His Girl Friday
The Asphalt Jungle
Mildred Pierce
Camera Person
The Tree of Wooden Clogs
Still Walking

Of these, I've only seen Mildred Pierce and Still Walking, and I'm quite excited for the other films, too. I think six is enough for me this go around, at least until July.

You'll receive an email once your order ships and also a tracking number will appear next to your completed order.

I want to order Dekalog but it's a few cents short of $50. Unfortunately, free shipping doesn't apply anyway, like some said it might.

I should probably sit this sale out anyway. I got Lone Wolf and Cub just a few months ago, and both the Before Trilogy and Trilogia Del Toro yesterday. That's a lot to watch!

I was going to make another trip to the Criterion site this morning, but I remembered just in time that two big races that I participate in every year went up for registration today, so the rest of my money went to those instead.

I've got enough still-unwatched flicks in my queue anyway.

I grabbed The Uninvited (giving this one more try), Bigger Than Life and A Night to Remember which are blind buys but sounded good and I got the free shipping

Just for my own knowledge is there any benefit to ordering from the Criterion Collection flash sale vs Barnes & Noble? It looks like the highlights in my eyes are that they come in between the Barnes & Noble sales, occur more often, provide more money directly to Criterion and most likely doesn't include Sales tax. Thanks!

Yes to the above, plus you can accumulate "points", and after 500 (1 for each dollar spent) you will receive a $50 credit/GC. They also run promos from time to time. I received a $10 credit for something, maybe liking the FB site...I can't remember.

If I buy the Criterion titles in-store from a Barnes & Noble 50% Off sale, then they are a wee bit cheaper, because of my extra 10% member discount. If I order the B&N sale titles online, then the price is slightly higher because of sales tax, although I get free shipping as well.

The Criterion flash sales are great if you are ordering more than $50 worth of discs, because of the free shipping. It's also fun to support the company in a direct way. You can also accrue points by purchasing directly from Criterion, and that's quite nice.

There's a pre-order up for Chungking Express at BB. It's likely an import, but I don't see any upcoming releases in the database here. Is Australia coming out with one?

If you're a B&N member, the 10% in-store discount more than offsets the sales tax. Also, some folks here have reported success with B&N coupons on Criterions but most, including myself, have not had luck with that, so a big YMMV there. Finally, at B&N stores you can visually inspect the packaging before you buy. That's very important to some people.

Other than that, it's mostly timing. This is the last big Criterion sale before June or July, which in turn will be the last sale before October. i guess what I'm saying is the best sale is the one that's happening now.

Not too crazy this time around and like others have said, pleased that Criterion is not running out of stock hours into the sale.

Picked up:

Before Trilogy
Still Walking (Never in stock at any of my local B&Ns)
Akira Kurosawa's Dreams
Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
Fox and His Friends

Also, B&N sometimes doesn't have certain titles in store. I ordered "Le Beau Serge" and "Les Cousins" this sale, two titles I never can find at my local B&N stores. I tend not to order older Criterion discs from B&N online if I can help it because they have often been re-shrink wrapped with damaged packaging.

It's kind of a toss-up, depending on usage. You can buy a B&N membership for $25, and you'll get 10% more off and additional coupons (that mostly don't work on Criterion sales), plus free shipping (but if you're ordering so little that you need free shipping on these, you probably won't offset the $25 cost of the membership). But with Criterion, you'll accrue points and eventually get $50 credit for cumulatively spending $500. I'm not gonna say that it's not worth buying at the B&N sales, but I would say that the difference isn't enough to be worth ignoring the Criterion store sales.

This is probably a dumb question, but during the B&N 50% off sale, does Criterion ever price match? I doubt that they do, but I'm just curious. I'd rather give my money directly to Criterion anyway. As everyone knows, B&N has excluded Criterion on coupons. I just tried using a mailer coupon on an entirely different item and that was also excluded. It's frustrating to pay $25 year for "benefits" that include coupons I can't use.
