I just watched all six Lone Wolf And Cub films in one day. I knew I was going to love theM. What I found kind of weird was in the booklet, it said they knew the sixth film was going to be the last bc they had ran out of stories from the manga. Thats why they went crazy and threw a little of everything into the ending (which was a bit over the top but I still loved it) my question is why oh why did
[Show spoiler]Itto not get to kill Retsudo in the end. Instead Retsudo sled away saying ill kill you next time Itto. All the films were leading up to this since Itto had literally killed everyone in the Yagyu clan so he could restore his name. If you knew it was the last film, why not conclude it properly?
That was the only thing I didnt like. Maybe its addressed in some of the special features. Haven't had a chance to watch the third disc yet.

Im so happy to have all six of these films on blu. Shogun Assassin was such a ridiculous rip off.

I think they wanted to continue the series, but Tomisaburô Wakayama was upset at the television version and quit.

I organize everything chronologically, but do separate by a few categories... I begin with Criterions, then digibooks, Kino Lorber Studio Classics, Scream Factory, Olive Films, Twilight Time, box sets, Hitchcock, and then everything else.

Eyes Without a Face is such a great horror movie. It's one of the best, in fact.

You may want to steer clear of the accompanying documentary, Blood of the Beasts, if you're one of those people who likes animals. Most of us who own the Blu-ray have only sat through that documentary one time. It's quite fascinating, actually, but once was enough for me.

So... How are you guys stacking Trilogía de Guillermo del Toro on your shelves? Laying it flat down or some other way?

As much as I love Criterion's unique and artistic packaging, this one may be a little too eccentric.

And we lose the amazing Criterion box art for Pan's Labyrinth with this release.

Small price to pay, though, for getting three amazing films at a great price.

ARG I am NOT happy...

So I placed a rather large (18 titles) order during the last sale. I'm located in Canada. Now, because the order was large, they not only decided to switch from USPS shipping to UPS, they also ended up charging me more for it in the process! (9.95+2.95 each vs 19.95+3.95 each)

Because they switched carriers, I ended up being slapped with a $93CAD import fees charge on top of all of it. This likely would not have been the case with USPS (it's actually never happened to me before).

I decide to write them an email, in the off chance they would feel like recognizing their mistake. Instead, I get a reply that tells me I likely got "confused" with the exchange rate, which wasn't the case, and invites me to keep supporting them in the future. I'm rather insulted...

Cat People goes in the horror section, since it is one of the great horror classics.

Actually, there are a few Criterion titles that defy easy classification (Bicycle Thieves, Black Moon, etc.), so they all just go together. Not by spine number, though. They just go together depending on how many of them I can fit inside the plastic storage cases that I use for my collection.

This has nothing to do with the Criterion Collection, and, in fact, it probably has nothing to do with anything. It's true, though.

Nope, that didn't happen. Looks like it might never happen.
Hearing ya. But perhaps with a bit of luck Le Samourai may get the HD treatment soon, given they've finally done Straw Dogs.

Stop it, stop it. I beg you, stop it ... I've moved on.

Flying cars and invisibility cloaks could soon become a reality.

But getting Le Samourai released by ... I've lost all f###ing hope.

Received my order on Monday, and they forgot to include my Before Trilogy boxset. I got all nine of the other titles. Really wanted to revisit that series, right now...

Since some others are telling their flash sale shipping horror stories Ill share too. Three of my cases came completely cracked. Two of the booklets were ripped and one cover was ripped when the case ripped. Emailed Jon on Monday replied today saying he would ship three cases, two booklets, a cover and a partridge in a pear tree this week by usps.

So in reality I have no complaints.

Oddly enough this was the first time an order from CC came that jacked up. My B&N orders now thats a different story...

IMO you should have refused the UPS package and had it returned. If you didn't authorize the different shipping method then you shouldn't have to pay for the added cost & brokerage fee.

the manga was still ongoing while the films were being made, and not completed until 1976.

I wouldn't put too much stock in that sentence from the book. there was still plenty of cool stuff they could have used. The series still had a decent run on TV. as for how the manga ends (from wiki) :

[Show spoiler]Toward the end of their journeys, Ogami Ittō's dōtanuki sword is surreptitiously damaged by a supposed sword-polisher who is really an elite "Grass" ninja of the Yagyū clan. When attacked by the last of the (kusa) Grass ninja, the sword breaks due to Yagyū tampering, and Ittō receives wounds that are ultimately fatal. Deadlocked in mid-battle with Retsudō, Ittō's spirit leaves his body after a lifetime of fatigue and bloodshed, unable to destroy his longtime enemy and ending his path of meifumadō.

The story finishes with Daigorō taking up Retsudō's spear and charging in fury. Retsudō opens his arms, disregarding all defense, and allows Daigorō to drive the spear into his body. Embracing Daigorō with tears, Yagyū Retsudō names him "grandson of my heart", closing the cycle of vengeance and hatred between the clans and concluding the epic.
