I think I recall reading that Criterion has the rights to Henri-Georges Clouzot's La Vérité with Brigitte Bardot. I saw a Bardot documentary on TV the other day and it reminded me. I wish that Criterion would hurry up and release it.

Be glad of that. I've been drinking in dives for the better part of three decades and cringe every time I hear that term appropriated by some PBR swilling poser.

No, we'll always have hipsters, but I'm pretty sure they've moved on from PBR.

I suspect Criterion will be re-releasing them both.
Yeah rumour is that Rebecca, Spellbound and Notorious are back with Criterion.

I picked up the now-OOP BD triple-pack for $15 from Amazon a couple of years back, but would immediately double-dip for Criterion releases.

If they were to release them this year, will we get them all in a digipak set or will they keep the original art and put them out as individual releases?

It's still a rumor of course that they'll happen at all, but I have to imagine they'll do both options, releasing them as singles, but also as a box set. Perhaps even a repeat of the Wrong Men and Notorious Women box set (though the existing Hitch box set might rule that out)

Similar vibe maybe?
I remember watching both of those films and want to make an effort to watch them again... but those two Harmony Korine movies are more "arty" and "experimental" that are more about character studies rather than a "place" being a character study (and the characters themselves comprising the parts to the whole). That's at least how I viewed Slacker, as Austin was THE main character. I know the city doesn't look like that anymore today I'm sure, but this movie singlehandedly made me aware of Austin, TX and has inspired me to visit there ever since.

Godard, Altman, even the anarchic sensibilities of Robert Downey Sr. It's an absolutely brilliant movie.
I think its still my favorite Linklater movie too (though its a tough call between that and Dazed and Confused which I absolutely love too). It definitely is a brilliant piece of filmmaking (Slacker that is), as not only is a city a main character, but the dialogue is one continuous piece that flows from beginning to end amidst dozens and dozens and dozens of characters. Altman definitely was influential.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. An episode of Master Of None revolves around visit to a honky-tonk, and, depending on your prerogative that show may or may not be pretty "hipster".

Speaking of vocabulary, how did "dive bar" become a thing?

It's supposed to be "dive".

"Dive bar" is kind of redundant, like saying "the truck vehicle" or something.

It's nothing to do with hipsters, there's a difference between a dive bar and a honky-tonk. Honky-tonks will almost always have live music whereas a dive bar will have an old busted-up juke box in the corner at best. Honky-tonks often have other entertainment ... mech. bulls, etc. A dive bar might have a pool table with dead rails and lots of cigarette burns and beer stains.

I've been using it. They finally updated it last week and the release notes just say "chromecast support" instead of "gen 2 and newer"
