One day, we're going to be wearing our movies on our sleeves...literally.
We'll have access to thousands of 8k films in microdermal implants on our wrists. We'll use our fingers and eye-touch recognition to select films. We'll then be able to project these films on any one dimensional surface anywhere. We'll no longer need these... primitive and ancient "discs". Because... we'll own the right to view these films IN OUR OWN BODIES! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Berlin Express The Search The Big Lift The last one is particularly interesting for me because my Dad flew in the Berlin Airlift. I think all of these are available to see on DVD and TCM. |

I'm pretty sure my interest in film will significantly decline if the only means of me seeing or owning a film is via a streaming service on my TV.
Going to the theater has been a big part of my life, even if it's been relatively absent as of late (because nothing has interested me). I grew up during Blockbuster's most popular years - renting movies on VHS and DVD. Blind buying and owning films on a disc has been the largest part of my life. It's a much more intimate and personal way for me to connect with certain films than simply going to Amazon Instant Video and renting a movie for $5.99. |

![]() ![]() Paper Moon is a seminal film of the '70s, and deserves a proper domestic high definition release. I've broached the idea here before, but just to gauge the interest before going to Criterion on Twitter, who would be up for a Peter Bogdanovich boxed set? Criterion still has the rights to The Last Picture Show, yes? Get Paper Moon, which has no domestic blu-ray release, and then throw in a comedy like What's Up, Doc, or They All Laughed. We all know the extras would be outstanding. I could listen to him talk all night; incredibly knowledgeable, and I've found him to be more self effacing the older he's gotten. That would make for a real winner, imo. Any buyers? |

It's sobering to think that the bustling, carefree Berlin of People on Sunday would end up like this a mere 15 years later. That last shot - flying back over the ruins - is amazing.

Haha true but some films do have poor releases from other studios, like antichrist from AE, I've always had problems with the really dark scenes, but Criterions release doesn't have that issue Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Watched Still Walking tonight. Despite not speaking Japanese, that has to be one of the finest examples I've ever seen of naturalistic dialogue and conversation on screen. It's wonderfully authentic and captures a lot subtle nuance of speech and reaction to speech. Was quite impressed by the framing as well, the movie is full of shots with characters in different parts of the frame doing different things and it all coming together really nicely.
Beautiful film. |

Bogdanovich comes off as pompous a little too often, but I agree, I can listen to him talk nonstop. His knowledge and analysis on certain films really draw me in. |

A lot of those guys are slaves to their influences. Bogdanovich has talent but he keeps wallowing in nostalgia and that affects his work negatively. You contrast these guys with Scorsese--who like these guys is also a huge film buff--but Scorsese has his own style and voice distinct from his influences. There's no point in straight copying your film idols because you'd just be making poor man's versions of their work.

Bogdanovich himself has been pushing for Criterion to put out the director's cut of "Texasville", unseen since the Criterion laserdisc. Unfortunately, Texasville has started showing in HD and it is only the theatrical cut, so they might have an upward battle there. |
