The 15th of each month is generally the announcement date for Criterion, although they are sometimes a day or two late for various reasons (holidays, etc.).

Yep, the 15th falls on a Saturday this month, so it'll probably be the 17th at the earliest. Possibly the 18th if Criterion observes Easter Monday, Bat Day, Patriots Day, Blah blah blah day, Dyngus day, or any other holiday on the 17th.

The announcements are always on the 15th of the month, or on the next day after the 15th that isn't a weekend or holiday. This month, I would expect announcements on Monday, the 17th.

My college poli-sci teacher would be so happy. She used to cite Clueless as an example of game theory.

The wife and girls are away this week so I'm watching all non-Criterion Lynch blind spots. So far I've caught Lost Highway, The Elephant Man and Inland Empire is in the works. I may have to throw Dune in the queue, too.
Does Inland grow on you? 30 minutes in and I'm not sure what the heck I'm witnessing.

And, To keep it Criterion related...is there a consensus on most likely to be added? With all the Lynch postings something as to be on the horizon.

There are so many posters out there who seem to have an inside track on potential future Criterion releases. As a Richard Linklater fan, has anyone out there heard any rumblings of Criterion possibly releasing Everybody Wants Some!! ? Would love to see this released with a commentary by Linklater or Linklater and the cast.

Take it out of the player NOW. Tackle it when you're completely in the mood for feeling Lost and Disoriented.

And yes, it grows on you. It's one of the rare films that plays better on subsequent viewings (provided you're not turned off by the low-fi look). The difference is akin to navigating a foreign city without a map and with one.

I would shell out for this.

Everybody Wants Some!! is basically Dazed and Confused with better music.

So if I love Linklater, but pretty much loathed Dazed and Confused, this is probably not for me?

Dazed and Confused movie soundtrack vs. Everybody Wants Some!! movie soundtrack

I rest my case.

Everybody Wants Some!! is a quality flick. When most people think of the 1980s, they remember parachute pants, small cars, synth-pop music, and MTV, but few films shed a light on that short transitional time window of 1980, between the 1970s rock/disco/punk era and the colorful "big '80s" vibe that showed up a few years later. 1980 was a time of big automobiles, tight T-shirts on guys, long hair, and a few holdover hippie types. The 1982 film, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, depicts a similar world, and this movie has the same sort of fun spirit

I love the free-flowing vibe in Linklater's films. Dazed and Slacker have outstanding dialogue and memorable characters.
I turned Everybody Wants Some off 40 mins into the film. It felt like a bad post-Van Wilder National Lampoon movie. It is BY FAR my least favorite Linklater movie. However, the soundtrack is excellent...

Agreed. I'd sooner watch his Bad News Bears remake five times than Everybody Wants Some once more.

Just out of curiosity, why did you loathe that movie? It's a film I could see one being completely ambivalent about, but not outright hate. It's just a bunch of high school kids doing dumb shit to a 70s soundtrack. Obviously, everyone has films that they hate for one reason or another, but just curious.

I made it all the way through "Inland Empire" and then spent an hour afterwards talking to a bunch of people, one of whom had seen it more than 6 times in a theater (I forget his exact number), and I'm still not sure what the heck I witnessed.

But I don't mean that in a bad way.

I agree. No where near as good as Dazed and Confused.
