Where did you hear the information from Merhige? I did a little google search and couldn't come up with anything, but I'm emphasizing the word "little".

On this podcast. Don't ask me where though. He definitely discusses it

EDIT: He starts talking about it around the 1:01 mark. Sounds like an independent release to me.

Misterlime said in the Kino thread that another label had it, Criterion would seem to be the best bet.

Yeah definitely seems like a Criterion title. I'll hold off.

I just found out there's a Begotten Facebook page. There's a post on there about the restoration of it. Also, Merhige is making a new 25 minute film called Polia and Blastema!

There's a nice article on Criterion's site about producer Jack H. Harris who recently passed away at the age of 98. He was the producer of one of my favorite Criterion titles-Equinox, which I hope someday will get a upgrade.

I know Criterion has released Jarmusch in the past. Just watched Gimmie Danger on Prime. It was amazing but I'm a huge Stooges fan. Wonder if this will be a future CC blu?

I've read of others having problems. (In fact I played mine to be sure it was okay after reading about them.) mulvaney at Criterion.com is the usual channel for getting replacements...

I'm not sure about you guys, but here's a Criterion release I've been anticipating for a while...really excited that Rumble Fish got a major great review on this site too!

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Rumbl.../98376/#Review

I don't know what it is about this film, but I find it to be one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. There is a timeless, dreamlike quality about the characters and setting, and the cinematography, score and editing is impeccable.

It's no wonder I wrote a 20 page thesis on this film in my final year at college at a film class. There is so much happening in the film's subtext that is quite profound.

This is a film I definitely need to watch again soon. I wasn't a fan of it the first time I saw it a long time ago but hopefully that changes on my second viewing. I think I will rent it tonight and watch it when I get off work.

The Pathe 2 disc DVD we got in the UK was excellent. Great features, 3 commentaries and a great video commentary with members of New Order and some other factory acts. Worth watching for a drunken Peter Hook screaming when the real Tony Wilson makes a cameo. "We would have been millionaires if it wasn't for that c#*t!".

Mon Dieu!

Anybody else pre-order The Umbrellas of Cherbourg? I want to explore Jacques Demy, and I'm a sucker for Catherine Deneuve, so I jumped on it. Will be here on Thursday!

My Cathy D collection grows by one today.

Now I need to open these, though, since Filmstruck isn't available yet for the Roku. Grumble grumble.

And how about a group of directors for a young actress to work with, huh? Francois Truffaut, Jacques Demy, Roman Polanski and Luis Buñuel....Jesus.

You should also pick up Cohen's release of Tristana, one of her (and Bunuel's best).

Acquired Rumble Fish as a blind buy on laserdisc back in '84 and have loved and been simultaneously fascinated by it since then...and to this day I consider it one of the most beautifully photographed films I've ever seen. So glad Criterion appears to have given the visuals the justice they so richly deserve with this transfer.

I'll probably grab it after I get UoC in Thursday. I'm trying so hard to be good, but it's not easy.

Some great films there. The Long Day Closes is easily my favourite Davis film and I wish he still made films in that style.

Wow! You've picked up one of my favorite Criterions from that list which is not only the highly underrated, but rarely mentioned, Life During Wartime. Todd Solondz is in my top 5 favorite directors list and this is one of his absolute stone cold classics.

His films are so bittersweet and strange. So much angst and trauma and a lot of truth about how truly wierd most people are. His films are so powerful and truly unique. I always find my eyes getting a bit moist when I watch this film. It is funny, but in a very sad way!

I truly hope you enjoy Life During Wartime. I sure did.
