Don't worry, Scottie. I'm going to balance out the yin and yang in the universe. I'm about to go on an historic movie watching run...'cause my girlfriend will be out of town for three days visiting her folks.

Pandora's Box would be a dream come true. I like to see "Stray Dog" get a BluRay. One of my favorite Kurosawa films. It's a nice film noir and IMO one of Kurosawa's best films

I would've totally asked for Stray Dog but that all changed recently upon revisiting Red Beard. Man, it really hit me bad this time! ... Let's just say I was in tears. Emotionally draining but effective, up there with Tokyo Story & Ikiru. Kinda annoyed by the fact that the good folks at Criterion haven't considered it for a remaster. |

Also speaking of I haven't understood why someone like Criterion hasn't gotten around to Two Women. Though I think I'm going to get the UK release when I get the chance.

I sometimes get this funny feeling that the Mulvaneys are working on that Le Samourai 4K/8K restoration. Meanwhile, Becker's probably laughin' his arse off while reading the comments here. #kidsthesedays |

Roman Holiday is one of those titles I'm absolutely flummoxed by the knowledge that nobody has released it on blu-ray. I mean, seriously?????
The Philadelphia Story is another. And how the H-E-double hockey sticks has The Lion In Winter never been released domestically? I know as sure as I'm sitting here that as soon as I order the StudioCanal import, Criterion will announce it. And you know? I'd be ok with that, because I'd watch it three times, minimum, before the Criterion came out. These three, especially, are just no-brainers. They won a combined eight Oscars, and were nominated for a total of twenty-three!!! Roman Holiday had ten, The Philadelphia Story had six, and The Lion in Winter had seven. Now, I know that Oscar recognition does not always correlate to film greatness, but in this case, these are three wonderful films that should have come out as soon as the darned format was introduced. When the names above the titles are Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, Peter O'Toole, Jimmy Stewart, Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn....I'm sorry. No waiting. Period. Front of the line, folks. Make way. And there are other films in this same vein. Arsenic and Old Lace. Cary Grant directed by Frank Capra. Bringing Up Baby. Hello? Cary Grant and Kate Hepburn piloted by Howard Hawkes. How about some more Barbara Stanwyck and Bette Davis, please? |
